Can You Avoid Fillings and Regenerate Your Teeth?

Amanda teeth

Amanda Beutler and son Olin

Last Thursday night, I spoke to nearly 200 of my friends in Boise. Afterwards, signing books and talking with people, a beautiful woman named Amanda Beutler got to the front of the line and was crying before she even started speaking. At first, all she could say was, “Thank you.” She gave me a hug, took a few breaths, and told me this story that has had me jumping out of my skin with excitement, wanting to share it, ever since.

18 months before we met, she had taken her 6-year old son, Olin, to his first-ever dentist visit, to find that he had 6 cavities! The dentist insisted that she make an appointment at a hospital to put Olin under anesthesia for the surgery! She was uncomfortable with this and asked the dentist to wait.

She had the thought: “If the human body can heal, why can’t teeth?” What a genius question. An important question. As with cancer (where virtually everyone we know just follows Standard of Care, chemo / radiation), we don’t really KNOW what regeneration the teeth can experience, because nearly 100% of us just get the filling in our teeth. As someone who has recently been paying the price for the tons of sugar I ate in the earlier decades of my life, I have studied this issue in-depth, as I’ve paid a steep price for my metal fillings, later removed and replaced, and eventual failure of those teeth and materials. A filling is not the same thing as natural tooth dentin, no matter what material you use.

Biological dentists use non-toxic, or more accurately, less-toxic materials. (Traditional dentists use amalgam fillings with heavy metals, root canals that are possibly the scariest and most toxic medical procedure in modern Standard of Care, and toxic crown and implant materials containing heavy metals known to cause auto-immune conditions.) Biological dentists use different procedures and materials.

But every time we drill and fill teeth, we take those teeth closer to inevitable death. I have always wondered, is there another way? If so, how would we know? It would take someone opting out of that accepted system and doing something radically different. It would take a hero. Or heroine.

Amanda is an amazing mother. She spent three months researching intensively. She found GreenSmoothieGIrl.com, started feeding Olin green smoothies daily, and began implementing my 12 Steps to Whole Foods program in earnest. She wasn’t dabbling in it–she was implementing it in a very committed way.

As I have done, Amanda studied the voluminous, compelling work of Dr. Weston A. Price, DMD. He believed that cavities could be healed after researching indigenous people, all over the world, who displayed no tooth decay. He compared these results to people in developed nations eating a processed diet.

Six months after implementing her self-designed protocol after studying the work of Dr. Price and GreenSmoothieGirl, Amanda and Olin returned to the dentist. He examined Olin’s mouth and turned to Amanda, completely baffled, and asked her how his cavities could be gone–filled in with hard, healthy dentin, in no need of fillings. He called his colleague in to see. All six of them were healed.

Amanda’s answer was, “Green smoothies!” She wrote me later to share this photo I’d asked for, and said, “Thank you so much, Robyn, for everything! You have helped to significantly change my family’s well-being!”

Amanda, let me thank you. I have wondered the same thing, myself: “If the human body can heal, can’t teeth repair themselves?” I think you are a heroine–going against the grain, and doing hard things, making sacrifices, to bless your little son’s life.

Little did you know you have now helped many others. I am ecstatic to share this story and try these things myself, with new confidence and hope. Very frankly, I want essential oil producers to share your story too, and I plan to share this with them!

Thank you for being brave and being a pioneer. Thank you for telling me what you did–I am so inspired!

We’re they large cavaties or small ones? I’ve done a great deal of research on Dr. Weston A. Price’s protocol for healing cavaties and he reccommends a TON of meat. How did you incorporate green smoothie girl into healing the cavaties?

    1. Amanda Beutler says:

Hi Kaitlin! Thank you for your interest in my story 🙂
My son had small cavities on many of his teeth. I noticed them immediately after they started growing and became proactive right away. The ones in between his front teeth were like small half moons that were brittle around the edges and on a canine was a small hole, about the size of the tip of a pen. We could see the cavity in between his molars on the x ray was a half moon crevice, as well.
As far as diet, the biggest change was the 12 Steps program and green smoothies multiple times a day! I give a more in depth description of everything in a lengthy comment below. As far Dr. Price’s recommendation for lots and lots of meat, I simply decided that I agreed with Robyn’s research on plant based protein more. That’s really what a lot of Dr. Price’s research drills…protein, protein, protein! I did incorporate some animal based foods, like bone broth and occasional raw milk, for the high amount of vitamins and good fat they provide.

wouah!!!! Hi, please can you share your exact protocol with wintergreen = 3 times a day? how zith or mixed with…..? and 1 more question about coconut oil for oil pulling: this oil is solid, so how do you ” start” ? you start to chew until it’s liquid? sorry but maybe something that i do not know! Thank you.

    1. Emily says:

Coconut oil melts at I think it’s about 75 degrees (ish). You can melt it in a cup/bowl of warm water if you’d like, but if you put it directly in your mouth, it will melt within seconds (as the temperature in your mouth is about 98.6 degrees!)

  3. Gaylene says:

so how exactly did you have your son use it? how many drops in the mouth? was it in a carrier oil? How long did you have him swish it for? Once a day? (straight peppermint in the mouth to rinse causes my skin around my lips to break out)

    1. Amanda Beutler says:

Hello Gaylene! I give a much more detailed description of everything in a comment below 🙂
To answer your question directly, I did not use a carrier oil. I had him try swishing with coconut oil, but he did not like the consistency one bit! Instead, I just had him put some water in his mouth and open it slightly, then would drop a single drop of Doterra’s Birch oil in and had him swish for 15 seconds. We did this right after his morning and evening brush.

  4. Michael Harkcom says:

Was that Olin’s baby teeth or his permanent teeth?

    1. Amanda Beutler says:

      Michael,
Hi there! They were baby teeth 🙂
      ~Amanda

  5. Gaylene says:

one more question, what kind of birch oil is it? There are two types of birch, the White Birch or Silver Birch, which is scientifically known as Betula Pendula (previously known as Betula Alba), and the Black Birch, Sweet Birch, or Cherry Birch whose scientific name is Betula Lenta.

    1. Amanda Beutler says:

      Gaylene,
Hi there! I can only advocate Doterra’s Birch oil and they classify theirs as Betula Lenta 🙂
      ~Amanda

  6. Christina says:

Can you explain oil pulling? I saw a link on Facebook and when I went to research it I did not find any journals saying it had any significant effects. I was very interesting in trying it however so I’d like to know more.

  7. Annie says:

I am the wife of a dentist, a dental office manager, and the mom of a young boy who did indeed “go under” with a pediatric dentist to have his teeth repaired. From my knowledge and experience I can tell you that a) when a pediatric dentist says your child has cavities, they don’t always MEAN they are actual cavities. Sometimes they are “grooves” that the dentist feels will eventually have a cavity, so they treat the tooth as if it is a cavity. b) teeth themselves are not vascular, therefore they cannot “heal” themselves. Once you have decayed material in a tooth, that spot does not regenerate enamel. You can, however, remineralize teeth to some degree in some instances. Your best bet is to find a dentist you trust and to ask questions, and to make wise food choices. We also use DoTerra oils, and I do believe in their healing power, and of course in the power of good nutrition. Food can be poison or food can be medicine.

  8. Charlene Stott says:

What part of Weston Price’s regimen did you implement. He advocates using animal products.

    1. Amanda Beutler says:

Hi Charlene! Many people were asking the same question you did. I posted an in depth comment below to answer everyone 🙂

  9. Stacy says:

My 6 year old son has severe dental decay, as well. My alternative practitioner suggests staying away from fruit (except berries sometimes). Did you limit fruit? Also, did you avoid ALL grains? Did you regularly do the bone or meat stocks? I get overwhelmed with all of it and haven’t been able to successfully keep on the regime. You are inspiring me to try again, though 🙂 Thanks in advance for your info!

    1. Amanda Beutler says:

Hi Stacy! For my son, we did cut down on his fruit consumption. He only had them as a natural sweetener in the green smoothies for a couple of months, and then we slowly added whole fruits separately back into his diet.

And no, we didn’t avoid all grains, though we did cut back. We noticed great benefits from soaking all of our grains. I planned all of our meals a week in advance, so that made things pretty simple. The night before, I would throw whatever grains we would be eating the following day in a bowl with an acid medium and water (it depended on what I was making and the recipe).

And yes, I would make a batch of bone broth once a week that we would eat with soups or by itself a couple of times a week.
I left a more lengthy comment below, as well 🙂

      You are SO welcome!

Has anyone tried fermented cod liver oil and butter oil? I am just curious as I have read about it at The Healthy Home Economist. I have not gotten my kids teeth cleaned this year as I don’t want to deal with the dentist and hygienist again until I do some work on my 3 kids teeth. I too feel that there must be a way to regenerate them if we can regenerate other areas of our body. I haven’t started any routine yet but will likely try the Wintergreen oil for now.

    1. Amanda Beutler says:

Hi Jennifer! Many people were asking the same question you did. I posted an in depth comment below to answer everyone 🙂

    Hi Amanda,
That is great that you did not have to put your son thru those procedures. I am a dental hygienist and would love if we could see before and after xrays of the regenerated teeth.
    Health and wholeness,

  12. Sunny says:

Please tell me the protocol–how many drops, how much/what kind (FCO or EVCO?) coconut oil–how long, often, I bet we ALL want to know. And CONGRTATULATIONS on helping your little boy, and all of us!!

    1. Amanda Beutler says:

Hello Sunny! Many people were asking the same question you did. I posted an in depth comment below to answer everyone 🙂

  13. can you tell me exactly what was done to heal cavities? What do we do when we already have standard fillings, crowns and root canals?

    1. Amanda Beutler says:

Hi Juliana! Many people were asking the same question you did. I posted an in depth comment below to answer everyone 🙂
As far as advice about fillings, crowns, etc.. I highly recommend the book ‘Cure Tooth Decay’ by Ramiel Nagel. He gives great insight about modern day holistic dentistry and safe protocols and techniques.

  14. Tania says:

I have a question for Amanda. Did you use the birch oil alone or did you mix that with coconut oil and had your son swish that for 20 min? Thank you for sharing your story. I have heard of oil pulling and have heard that it can help with existing problems but did not hear it from someone who experienced it first hand, I will have to give it a try now! Also, does it need to be done first thing in the morning before anything else, no water sip of water, or is it ok to have a glass of water and then do the oil pulling?

    1. Amanda Beutler says:

      Hi Tania!
I did not use a carrier oil. I had him try swishing with coconut oil, but he did not like the consistency one bit! Instead, I just had him put some water in his mouth and open it slightly, then would drop a single drop of Doterra’s Birch oil in and had him swish for 15 seconds. We did this right after his morning and evening brush.
I personally love oil pulling, but don’t do it as often as I should! It is most effective first thing in the morning before you drink any water. The reason for this is that when you wake up in the morning, your mouth pretty gross and full of bacteria. If you drink water right way, you’re flushing all of that down into your body.
Here is a great article explaining more in detail!

      You are very welcome 🙂
