Will You Join Me in Fighting the Toxic Apeel Coating Sprayed on Fresh Fruits and Vegetables?
There’s a new concern with the produce you buy at the grocery store.
Fresh fruits and vegetables may be sprayed with the Apeel coating – which is toxic and may not even be labeled.
In the article linked above, I said I believe Apeel will fail as a company for two reasons:
- Their product doesn’t actually work,
- and because of public pushback
Now, I’m calling on the GreenSmoothieGirl army to be the resistance.
Together, we can push back against Apeel, which isn’t necessary and is toxic to our health.

How You Can Help Push Back Against Apeel
Public pushback is where YOU come in.
Please talk to the general produce employee where you shop. Whoever is walking around stocking produce.
And get the name and number of the manager. Talk to every person in the produce department you encounter, about Apeel.
Expect to have to educate them that it is a toxic preservative sprayed on produce by some companies, that is marketed as “plant-based” – but in fact, several heavy metals and petrochemicals are involved, according to their own FDA filing.
You can tell them this:
“Don’t take my word for it, the Apeel company’s filing with the FDA is where I got this information about 5 heavy metals and 2 solvents involved in making the product with a little throwaway pulp from some plant, to be able to sell it as ‘plant-based.’”
Also, please do this:
LIMONEIRA is a massive citrus company HQ'd in California that's coating its citrus with Apeel.
Please call them and very politely tell them you'll be declining lemons in restaurants, and telling the servers and management about Apeel.
Important Update:
I got this text from the CEO, so thank you for joining me and taking action – it works!

Apeel is Using Greenwashing
The Apeel company is using “greenwashing” to promote its product.
What is greenwashing?
It’s calling your toxic chemical product “plant-based” because there’s a little grapeseed mush that maybe grape juice companies sold you.
…OR they sell it to Apeel to pretend the Apeel preservative is “just plants protecting plants!” That’s what James Rogers told Dr. Mark Hyman Apeel is.
Their logic makes no sense.
If they’re spraying it on apples and lemons and limes, which appears to be the only place Apeel is getting any traction at all –
– don’t apples and lemons and limes ALREADY have a peal on them, from nature, to protect them from spoilage?
Is Apeel Used at Costco?
If you remember, the VP of Produce at Costco told me that they aren’t selling anything with Apeel on it anymore.
I’ll give him another call today, as it’s been a few months.
But even though I pressed him for any chance to say that public pressure was a factor, he insisted that the reason they stopped carrying Apeel-spraying brands is that it adds cost.

Why We All Need to Push Back Against Apeel
Let me reiterate how important it is for each of us to talk to produce employees and managers.
You may have to call the produce manager a few times, to get through, and to follow up.
You may find him or her to feign ignorance, or BE ignorant, about Apeel.
You guys have sent GreenSmoothieGirl a lot of the responses you get, and I want to thank you, because we need the GreenSmoothieGirl army to be the resistance.
So that we don’t feed our kids and grandkids food coated with toxic synthetic chemicals we can neither see nor wash off.
