Dressing Your Truth
Local author Carol Tuttle contacted me several months ago. She's author of four books, including "Discover Your Personal Beauty Profile" and "Remembering Wholeness."
She asked me to meet her for lunch. She said she knew exactly what I am in her typing system to help you choose clothes, hair, and makeup to "dress your truth."
I direct you to this because I believe this program allows you to live more truthfully, more grounded in your energy, personality, and unique way of operating in the world. It's about far more than shopping-and-makeup (which are NOT generally interests of mine, and I explain why in my interview).
I let Carol's team do a makeover on me! Check my interview out where I don't quite seem myself:
Check out Carol's program and sign up HERE
Not only did I arrive dressed completely as a Type 2 (I'm Type 3), but you won't know me, I was so nervous! (Losing all control and letting a team of people cut and color my hair, put makeup on me, and dress me–in a word, SCARY!) In the initial interview–not only am I jittery, but I didn't sleep well in anticipation, so I have bags under my eyes!
And here's my makeover:
Check out Carol's program and sign up HERE–I think you'll enjoy it! In fact, you might get LOST in the web site, watching the transformation of many women "discovering their truth."
Also, I'll be on her radio show tonight, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m., talking about wholeness in nutrition and health–and wholeness in Carol's world of truth, beauty, and fashion!

No bags.. you look beautiful 🙂 Long time reader, first time commenter.. will try to start participating in the conversation more.. but I felt compelled to tell you that I missed the bags under your eyes in the vid.. don’t think they were there! 🙂
Okay…so this is coming from a woman who has naturally curly hair and straightens it most of the time…
Something about wearing it curly takes me back to the 80’s…or maybe the Big Hair 90’s. (I’m your same age, Robyn..) I liked it then, but somehow it feels like I’ve time-warped myself out of there and into here and it just isn’t right!
Not only that, I have to have product to make it look that way, which means there is not running my fingers through it and it’s not shiny. Not to mention, it just never feels professional. Not to mention, it looks bad by the end of the day..it’s way more high-maintenance!
I know everyone will say, “I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!” because I get that all the time..but while I do like it..can I say I like your straight hair better?
I know..I’m a bit biased..but I had to say it! 🙂 (Don’t shoot me..I buy your products and read your blog…hehehe..)
Rebecca, I continue to do my hair straight most days. It’s just a personal preference. No one could ever talk me into being curly all the time–I like how you’ve stated WHY. I guess my main reason why is that it just feels messy and out-of-control to me.
I’ve had several people tell me they like my straight hair better, too. Anyway, I still loved getting lowlights back, instead of the flat blonde–Carol is so right about that! I needed more “texture” and a dynamic quality that was missing.
This is all kinda awkward to talk about my hair and clothes and stuff . . . ugh. I told Carol I’d do it–but on to more interesting topics tomorrow after this self-involved detour! LOL!
You look good either way.
OK, here’s my comment. you look great with the makeover BUT you looked great before the makeover so I’m concerned about you using all those toxic chemicals and what they do to your long term health. Somewhere I have a link to an article from earlier this year in which a study showed that the average woman puts something like over 200 chemicals a day on her body (including some known carcinogens) as various components of make-up, hair coloring, gel/sprays etc. etc. Yes we all get a bit older, but what’s the point of eating healthy if we don’t consider the toxicity we expose ourselves too!
RJM, yes, I agree. Although I’m not “au natural” in that I play with my hair color the past 5 years, and I do wear mascara and lip gloss, I wear NO foundation EVER. That was one of my conditions, with Carol–no makeup on the skin!
I have been coloring my hair since I was 18. I am mostly blonde and I usually do a mix of highlights and lowlights. Do you recommend a more natural hair coloring system/product that has less chemicals and toxins?
Absolutely marvelous…………that rose color is great on you, it just makes you glow. The curls soften your look so much! That makeover took 10 years off your appearance, not that you looked old, but the transformation was electric. Thanks for taking the personal plunge to show the rest of us what is possible……………Hope to see you when you come to Las Vegas
Hi Green Smoothie Girl. I watched your transformation last week on Carol’s blog. You look amazing! You say you don’t look like yourself but I would say you actually look more like yourself. It’s almost like I can see only YOU now. I am so happy for you. I love green smoothies and have been having them every morning for about 2 1/2 years now. They really do make such a difference in my life! Thank you so much for all your work!
Emily Dobson
(another type 3) ha ha
Good call–you look up dated and fab!
Are you ready any quicker in the morning or after a work-out?
I love Carol and am a Type 3…and have to confess I have lost my Type 3 over the past few years. Carol is right….it is a strong type..and I do not do myself a service by not being true! Oh how I need a spirit boost! You go Robyn – love yourself!!
Love the colors for sure!
Sorry, I’m going to sound like a snob here, but I don’t think someone who puts white face makeup with painted on black eyebrows should tell anyone how to look. Ha ha! 🙂
I think your hair could look great curly or wavy, but not the way they did it. It does seem too 80’s to me that way. Sorry to say also your pic that always comes in the email I think you have way too much eyeliner on. Maybe it’s a utah thing. You’re pretty enough, you do’nt need it! I couldn’t tell, but I hope that was one of the changes they made for you.
Sounds like a fun time, you’re brave, but hair grows back, right?
Keep up the good work.
Cheers!
Hi Robyn,
This was really cool of you to do. I think it took a lot of guts on your part. You looked good before and really cute! I have always thought that you would look really good with a slightly darker shade of hair. I am aware of this because I highlighted for many years and just recently started going back to my 7n dark blond color. The low lights are wonderful. I actually think it would look really good to go mostly lowlights with just a few highlights around your face.
The colors in the outfit looked soooo good on you!! Very soothing and beautiful on you. That was really fun!
Love the new look. The darker low lights frame your face and take away that too blond or washed out look. Love the wavey hair also. I think it makes you look younger, but you do look great before also.
Just another comment on the low lights. My hairdresser pulls the hair through holes in a cap, so none of the darker color – chemicals get on your scalp, just on your hair. I don’t feel guilty about it at all.
I love the green smoothies.
Robyn, you are amazingly brave to be opening yourself up to all our lovely critiques about your hair, make-up, etc. etc.!!! I feel kind of bad now..since I just think you are beautiful any ol’ way. I just think people who have never had curly hair, just don’t get curly hair…it’s a personal thing. (Just ask Oprah!!!)
And..green smoothies rock!
🙂
Robyn,
I know it’s hard adjusting to a new look, especially when you’re in the limelight. I must say though that you look 10 years younger! How wonderful! I like your curly hair, clothing and accessories too. You now look both strong and feminine.
I like your comment…you don’t have to be a purist and never wear make-up, wear straight hair, and dress like a tomboy, OR dress up all the time. You can work your way into your new look. I loved your “After” photos.
