Body Cleansing . . . part 8 of 9 on ELIMINATION
Many ancient texts speak of body cleansing, the need to fast now and then, for both physical and spiritual purification. You don’t have to be a yogi to give your organs of elimination a chance to rest and repair.
I think that over time, if you eat a 60-80 percent raw diet that includes a quart of green smoothie daily, and if you virtually eliminate processed foods and meat/dairy, you may experience slower but equally excellent results.
Depending on what part you want to target in body cleansing, you can flush the kidneys and liver with the Master Cleanse (a very old regimen using fresh lemon juice, cayenne, and a bit of real maple syrup in water). Dr. Jensen recommends several days of eating nothing but watermelon, when it’s in season. Or grapes, up to several pounds a day. The extra water and insoluble plant fiber are helpful in removing built-up waste. I often will go a few days eating nothing but green smoothie (and/or some Ultimate Meal shakes, and lots of water), just for a quick and easy cleanse that fits into my busy life.
If you have a lifetime of eating anything close to the S.A.D., I do recommend you undertake full body cleansing. The GreenSmoothieGirl Detox is 26 days of the most productive rest-and-repair you’ve likely given your body in an entire lifetime. And you needn’t suffer or starve. It walks you through several phases each cleansing a different organ. Once you are done with our 26 day program you will have cleansed the whole body, not just one specific organ. Hi Robyn,
Just wanted to say that I’m enjoying your blog. I’m in the midst of a green smoothie fast right now (10 days) and for the most part feel really good. I also wante to let you know that two of the blogs on your blogroll are inoperable (or at least they didn’t connect for me.) Thanks for all you do!

Any cleansing plans one can do while breastfeeding and/or pregnant?
No, just the slow way of eating a great GSG diet!
Dr. Christopher (www.herballegacy.com) was a big promoter of monthly 3-day juice cleanses. He said that they were only safe during pregnancy and nursing if you had already started doing them many months prior to the pregnancy. I cite him because his is the cleanse I’ve studied the most. But that seems to be the consensus among those who promote cleansing. On some email groups I’ve been on, we felt that one could do some cleansing once a nursing baby was older, like 2-3 years old, and stop the cleanse if it seemed to really affect them. But they would still be receiving your toxins if you did that.
I didn’t write my thoughts very clearly. I left out a major portion, actually 😛 I meant to say that while Dr. Christopher believed that his cleanses were safe while nursing IF you were well-accustomed to them, most practitioners will tell you that cleanses are not ever safe while pregnant or nursing, just as Robyn has said.
Hi , I did send an e-mail asking when you would incorporate the bentonite and psyllium in the GS cleanse? Re. blog eight, I still don’t see anything that says to “use a bentonite and psyllium husk shake” several times a day” , otherwise?
Please direct me on this as I have seen the B & P shake used with juicing cleansing but not with smoothies. I just feel that the B & P shake attracts the most toxins, I’m a newbe though, it’s just what I have read.
Thanks,
Lillie
