teens drinking greens!
Anyone think teenagers won’t drink green smoothie? This is my son (on the left) who was shorter than me at the beginning of this year and, I noticed tonight, is now taller than me when I’m in heels. (Who says kids fed a plant-based diet are scrawny?) He brought his two friends over while I was making green smoothie today and asked me for some, for his friends to try. Cool, right?

Do you use a microwave in your kitchen for anything? Is that one on top of your dish washer? I have stopped using mine and want to get rid of it altogether. After reading how it changes the food molecules and turns them into cancer causing molecules and all the rest of what microwave ovens do, I don’t want any part of it. It is tough breaking my family from using it. Mine is almost dead and I told them I wasn’t going to replace it that I was going to turn that space into an extra cabinet & get a door put on it.
I have two dishwashers not near where the boys are standing in this photo. I do have a microwave, which is right behind them. I use it for almost nothing–occasionally to heat water.
Interesting note, however: I got an email, a couple of times over the years, about how nothing would sprout in microwaved water. My son had a Boy Scout merit badge he was working on where he had to do an experiment to see which caused seeds to sprout the fastest: plain water, apple cider vinegar, etc. I asked him to use microwaved (then cooled) water for one of about 6-7 samples. Guess which one sprouted the fastest and grew the healthiest, from all outward appearances? The seeds in the microwaved water!
awesome!
Interesting notes about the microwave.
Interesting! So, is the microwave a bad thing to use or not?
I think it’s a bad thing to use generally, but I also think some of the doomsday reports (my mom quit using her microwave 25 yrs. ago when I was a teenager) are overblown. I don’t think nuking some water or some already cooked food on a rare occasion is going to be devastating to our health. But we’re probably better off to stay away from microwaves as much as possible.
I always wondered about microwaves too especially after reading those kind of stories. My husband and I just moved to Texas and didn’t pack our microwave because we thought there would be one here. Well there wasn’t one here and now we don’t have a microwave. My husband always points out when he sees microwaves in a store but I think, why should we buy one when we already have one back in Utah? And then I think, if I just send him all the leftover food for him to eat for lunch at work then we don’t really need a microwave. I might be using more energy by reheating some things in the oven but I have more counter space without having a microwave!
Ours died over a year and a half ago. I just adapted to life without one and found it’s really quite easy to do. I was surprised because before that I would’ve thought that I could never have done it because I’d used it so much! Because I’d been wanting to reduce my microwave usage anyway, I didn’t say much, and dh has never gotten around to getting it fixed (it’s a built-in, so it’s costly to replace). Every once in a while he’ll really miss it and say he’s going to fix it but he hasn’t yet! The hardest thing is reheating leftovers, but that’s doable in a frying pan or glass pan in the oven.
The kid standing across from your son looks like he could be his identical twin!
Ha! Well, he is a great kid, so if his parents ever want to give him up, I’ll take him!
