Ep. 330: “The Dose Makes the Poison” Is An Outdated Concept & Has Got To Go

Podcast: Play in new window
Why do practitioners tell you “the dose makes the poison,” and do you really believe that a substance is medicinal, as long as the dose isn’t too high? Let’s discuss the logic of this, in less than 10 minutes.

What do you think of homeopathic medicine?

Hi Jacqueline,
From Robyn:
I have tried homeopathics many times, and for me I've never noticed them making any difference. I've also read big fat books on their mechanism of action, and the limited information about their efficacy. It would be hard to write about homeopathy, because it's become so far-ranging, and one of my concerns is that the base of them seems to be alcohol and some industrial bases of sugar-like substances. So, 1,000x sugar water or alcohol, relative to some essence or energy of a substance–just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, relative to just getting nutrients and life force from plants, which has been my focus. We will do a little investigation of homeopathy, but my guess is that it's still mostly small companies making them, and therefore hard to research, because they just haven't been embraced by "pharma lite," which is the massive supplement industry that people aren't aware are made by pharma companies in contracts with chemical manufacturing companies, not much different than drugs, except they're not using controlled substances. (And where that line is, is very blurry! It almost seems random, in some cases. Which substances are controlled/regulated, and which are "supplements." NAC for instance.)
