I’d like to read to your kids this weekend!

By Robyn Openshaw, MSW | Feb 13, 2011

This weekend, Good Earth in Utah is hosting a book-launch party for The Adventures of Junk Food Dude. I’d like to meet your children and read them the story.

We’ll have free green smoothie samples, and a sticker they can wear that says, “I’M A GREEN SMOOTHIE GUY” or “I’M A GREEN SMOOTHIE GIRL.” If you want a book, I’ll sign it for your child, of course.

Parents need third-party validation of principles of good nutrition. Teach them now, while they’re young, before they get older and other voices may get more attention than parents do!

(I have a high-school junior whose sports classes, taught by folks who’ve bought into current fads and false doctrines, are pushing the myth that it’s good to maximize protein with lots of animal products and refined-food protein powders and bars. Fact: carbs, fats, and proteins are all good and necessary in their natural forms–and they’re found in perfect ratios when your diet is close to the dirt.)

Please come by with the kids (no need to RSVP), and I’ll be thrilled to be the seal of approval on your efforts to tell your kids how important it is to eat lots of veggies and fruits.

I’m looking forward to the book reading with my daughter on Saturday morning. Is there any way you would be willing to sell me some of your Kefir grains?

    1. Robyn Openshaw, MSW says:

Cara, I officially have no kefir grains. I gave them all away but one, and then my ONE didn’t proliferate (make babies) all this past year, and then we accidentally ground it up in the blender last week…..so a dentist who is a finalist in the GreenSmoothieGirl Makeover contest has ONE for me, and I need to pick it up…..anyway I’m really sorry. I would really like to find a way to buy them!

OMG, Dr. J, you’re amazing…..I have people asking me for kefir grains constantly. You and I need to collaborate on that…..everyone I know (myself included), their kefir grains quit having babies.

I’m coming to the sandy class on Friday so I’ll bring them then if I don’t see you before that. I’ll bring enough to share! They are water kefir grains – I’m guessing that’s different than milk?

    1. Robyn Openshaw, MSW says:

Dr. J, I don’t know about that difference…..sounds like you’re bringing some for another of my readers whom I saw at the book readings/signings this weekend, that sounds great, thank you!

So, Sorry, but I am a newbe… and I don’t have a clue what kefir is?? Why would I want some? There is so much I don’t know about the things you guys put in your green smoothies. Is that what you are doing with kefir?

  7. Sorry I missed this. I would love to read through your book. I might even put it in my waiting room for some of my younger patients to enjoy when they come for a cleaning.
