Friday class: thanks for coming!

By Robyn Openshaw, MSW | May 09, 2010

My class at PowerTri in Lehi was attended by over 100 on Friday night (all but 4 were there from this blog).

Thanks Jamie and Ryan for hosting it!

I loved how well “date night” turned out, like it did the first time we did it a couple months ago at Beyond Sports in Lindon.

So many husbands came, I love it! It might help to get your S.O. in front of me if you don’t think s/he’ll read my books. If you bring yours, I’ll try to rub off a little of my enthusiasm on him/her! My goal is to nurture and inspire people towards better choices–not depress, guilt, or shame them.

Jackie and Jenni (support123 [at] greensmoothiegirl.com) have gotten a lot of queries about when my next class is from those who were there on Friday night and want to send a friend or loved one.

I don’t know, but I’ll post it here when I know. I hope to do my show at all the Good Earth stores soon. If you have attended a GSG class and would like to comment here about its value to you, please do so and I’ll point the Good Earth folks here.

I announced something REALLY REALLY COOL at that class, that I had just learned. I’ll tell you about it here on the blog tomorrow! Actually it’s one awesome announcement, and one announcement that is jumping the gun but I might just do it anyway because I’m so pumped.

A 6-year old in attendance said, “Mom, this smoothie is really good! Let’s make it when we get home!”

Thanks everyone for not only coming, but for telling and showing your friends about how eating whole foods can radically change their lives for the better.

A reader named Lena came up afterward and gave me this note:

“Didn’t the Lord call it the GARDEN of Eden rather than the ZOO of Eden?”

Eat plants!

Love y’all,

  1. Hey Robyn! I went to your class on Friday and it was awesome! I’m relatively new to green smoothies and it totally pumped me up! I learned a lot and hope to buy the book soon.

I’m not sure if this is the place to ask this, but I had a couple questions that I didn’t ask the other night.

    1. Where do you personally get your baby tai coconuts from? I have no idea where a good Asian market is around here.

    2. How do you keep your family eating healthy on vacation?

    1. Robyn Openshaw, MSW says:

      Hi Kalli,

Search the blog, as I have written in the past about eating right while traveling (which my family does a LOT).

I go to 1st Oriental Market for cases of young Thai coconuts:
      286 N. State Str.

      take care,

Have you considered doing a class in southern Utah county? My DH doesn’t get off work until 6:30’ish and so making it to Lehi or northern Utah country doesn’t work for us.

BTW, my 14 year old son just told me that he is going to start drinking my green smoothies with me. He wants to improve his running. I guess my talking about nutrition and health is finally sinking in.

    Thank you!!

Hey Janine, I just do classes when someone asks me to. We need a room that seats 75+ and I like it when whoever sponsors it PROMOTES it. But yes, I should go to south county soon–hook me up!

My husband and I went to the green smoothie class! Best date idea! And I have to be honest I was a little star struck.. You are pretty much famous in our house! My husband was so impressed we bought your whole kit of goodies. For family night we are going to go through and try and make a game plan for our family’s health. Thanks so much for doing these classes, you are the kindest most down to earth women ever. Those good earth people would be crazy not to host your classes, after I told my family and friends that I went to your class they were all sad that I didn’t tell them about it so they could go… I will be attending your next one with them! 🙂 I did want to ask you a couple of questions if you don’t have time to answer me I will understand and I will still love everything you teach! 🙂

At the class you said you drink a quart of green smoothie a day. do you drink the whole quart at lunch time?

If I wanted to loose 30 pounds do you think it is vital to buy the salt drink thingy that you recommend???

Last one… my husband had some bad stomach reactions to the smoothie, not digestion problems but just really really sick to his stomach, is this normal?

Thanks again for being so willing to share this message. You truly are a life saver! 🙂

Heidi, I’m so glad you both came!

Yes, especially newbies sometimes feel nauseated drinking a LOT of green smoothie at once, especially on an empty stomach. IT IS POWERFUL! Eat it with OTHER foods, and spread it out over a couple of meals or snacks, and then it won’t usually bother you.

I usually drink a whole quart at a time, but I’ve been doing this for years–AND I eat more than most women, volume-wise, because I play 2-3 hours of sports virtually every day. I don’t think most people would drink a quart in one sitting, not in the beginning.

I hope you get to come to the Good Earth in Riverdale! If you do, I am SO coming to your class and bringing my hubby!

My mom and I attended your class and just loved it! Thanks for taking time to do it! I came home and got out the pint jars for my 5 kids…I’ve been doing GS for a while, but let the whining deter me from encouraging my kids!

The questions I wanted to ask were mostly about the other 11 steps of your program. Do you ever do classes geared toward people that already have the program and just want to have Q/A regarding that? I think it is so valuable to be in a room of people who have basically the same goal, but have found different ways to make it work!

PS for mother’s day breakfast,I requested a hot pink smoothie. Today, I asked my husband if he put the beet in because I couldn’t taste it and it was more orange than pink. He went to the freezer and pulled out the frozen balls of tomato paste and said “aren’t these the beets?” Yikes, I’ve got some work to do ;)!

Alicia, LOL! Well, you got some extra lycopene. I have done classes on Step 2 & 3 but I’ll have to ask here on the blog if a Q&A class for 12 Steppers, locally, would be valuable.

you should not post where you get your young thai coconuts publicly on here–they would have a shortage in UTAH county–have the people email you for the info.

My mom and i both LOVED your class…i have been competing in figure for about 7 years now. I always have done the major protein diet and even the CRAZY high protein and fats and no carb diet…. I can get super lean however once im done KILLING myself, my body balloons back and i feel yucky. The “bodybuilder” diet isn’t a healthy diet at all and not easily maintained. So, im looking forward to getting more healthy and hopefully maintaining a more lean physique all year round and no more crash and yoyo dieting. Also excited to have your energy and the energy that green smoothies give you.

My mom (68) also enjoyed your class very much and is looking forward to learning more. She also was happy to share the news with my dad who has always been healthy and active and is a big “juicer” with his trusty ol Jack Lelane juicer. But, my mom hates his juicing becase he goes through so…..many fruits and veggies for just a bit of juice. Its quite expensive, so she’s hoping that he’ll want to read your book as well and change his way of juicing.

Thanks again for the class and education….so excited for something great and new!

I have read your book but have been unable to make it to one of your classes. I hope that you are doing another one in Utah Co. soon and I can get there!

I have been making green smoothies since I read the book and have a turbo blender. There are a few questions that I have to ask. First, what is the best way to freeze your greens, spinach and so forth and if you use frozen greens do you have to add more water to your smoothies when you use frozen greens?

Second, using the coconut milk in smoothies sounds great but I’m not sure that I would use all the meat and it would go to waste, can you suggest some ideas on using it up?

    1. Robyn Openshaw, MSW says:

Michelle, those answers are in 12 Steps and in The Green Smoothies Diet.

Hey just FYI, I found some info on the agave nectar. I guess it’s becoming a big deal. It is a big fraud. Have you seen the info about it? I guess the producers of this agave nectar are misleading us. The nectar is actually more processed and refined than high fructose corn syrup! I was surprised by this, but I believe all that I read. Look into it, will you. See what you think.

    Hi Robyn,

I LOVED your class. I even let my sixteen year old daughter miss class for it so I could help her get excited. She said, “Mom, I have to admit that it feels really good knowing that by drinking green smoothies I am eating better than everyone else.” That was impressive coming from my girl!

I loved how open and honest you were at your class. You were not in anyway overbearing or insincere. I would bring my husband and my other kids and friends if you had one anywhere near Sandy. Also, I mentioned to you afterwards that my husband in an OBGYN and you said you would teach his office and patients. Did you really mean that? I would set it up if you would. Also, I would also get all the moms and girls involved in our church for an evening of inspiring information from you if you were willing to do that. Thanks again for a whole new way of helping people to feel in control of their cravings and weight!
