Alternatives to Antibiotics

By Robyn Openshaw, MSW | Oct 30, 2012

Winter’s coming up. The more raw plant foods you eat, and the more Chapter 8 probiotic-foods habits you incorporate into your diet, the more your body become inhospitable to viruses and infections.

But be prepared to nip the baddies in the butt, the minute you feel symptoms coming on, with natural alternatives to antibiotics. The sooner you get on it, the more effective natural solutions are.

In fact, even if people around me are getting sick, or if traveling soon, I start taking Kyolic garlic caps, goldenseal herb caps, spraying ACS and ACZ in my mouth every few hours.

I use ACZ nano for chelating toxins out of the body, and ACS 200 silver for killing all kinds of viral and bacterial organisms, only bad ones. They are phenomenal products to have on hand and use regularly, especially in the winter.
When you’re armed with effective natural solutions, which are cell-specific and don’t harm gut flora, you don’t have to get sick repeatedly, and you don’t have awful side effects like thrush and vaginal yeast infections. Sometimes those side effects can go on for years!

(Doing Step 8 to 12 Steps to Whole Foods is a MUST, if you’ve ever been on an antibiotic and need to rebuild your gut health. Making and eating cultured foods can rebuild that all-important healthy GI tract where most of your body’s defenses happen.)

I would like to incorporate more cultured foods as outlined in Chapter 8 of your 12 Steps to Whole Foods. We have severe lactose intolerance issues at my house, and have had great success using water kefir rather than milk kefir. The recipes in Chapter 8 use the whey from milk kefir. Is there a way I can use water kefir instead?

Why do you have to lick the Onguard? Also, the ACZ and ACS – I’d like to better understand why I need those and how often I would use them. I think the reason Antibiotics are so often used as it is cut and dry. You get sick so you take meds. With oils and othertypes of natural remedies it gets a little blurry as to how to use them. Thanks for the clarification.

Robyn, what do you think of the Goat milk Kefirs sold in stores? I bought on recently, have been drinking about an ounce every day for almost a week and I developed a lot of mucus (gross) and coughing caused by it, in my throat. I thought maybe it was just allergies but I can’t remember the last time I had mucus like this except when I used to use Half and Half in my coffee, which I’ve stopped for at least a year. Amazingly, the mucus I used to produce decreased dramatically and I didn’t even realize it was being caused by the half and half until I realized one day I hadn’t had a yucky throat for a while. Along with that, the skin of my lower legs improved (eczema). I use a coconut creamer in my coffee but will keep looking for alternatives as I don’t like the carageenan and cane sugar in it but I have a hard time drinking black coffee.

So I wanted to add kefir to my daily routine but I don’t know if it’s causing the mucus I am now experiencing. I can stop and restart it to test it but I thought I’d hear your opinions on it too.

Thank you in advance for your time.

Wanted to add that it is not raw and it is not organic Goat’s milk Kefir, if it matters. (I did not see any of the raw variety, unsurprisingly).

I was wondering if you have an opinion of other oil companies. I was told that you had do Terra oils at one of your classes. How much research into them have you done? Have you researched others? I am very interested in them.

I love On Guard and all doTERRA essential oils! I am happy to tell you how to get them at wholesale price. Please email me at amanda@greensmoothiegirl.com if you are interested in learning more. Thank you!

Robyn- do you have any links for the study that the microbiologist published?! What journal was it in?! I’m taking an epidemiology class, and I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to add this to our discussions!! Or if you remember her name I can look it up I’m sure…. THANKS!

Love what you do, you’re such an inspiration!

    Hi Robyn,
I’m so excited to learn there are alternatives to antibiotics. I’ve recently had several URIs and didn’t want to be forced to take antibiotics. Unfortunately, i was ignorant of other methods. What would you recommend for treatment of URI?

  9. Lauren says:

    Hi Robyn,

My dermatologist recommended antibiotics recently for my acne – would the above natural remedies work the same and clear my skin without damaging my intestinal flora? I have yet to start taking the anti-biotics because I’d like to explore other options first.

    Hi Robyn,
First I want to thank you because thanks to your teachings (I tell everybody you are my guru) I drink green smoothies every day and have become a vegetarian (3 years now). I’ve never felt better!
Now to my question, related to antibiotics. We are traveling to Peru in December and have been told to start antibiotics so we don’t get diarrhea. I think I remember you where there? I normally don’t take anything (besides my smoothies) but I really don’t want to get sick on my vacation. Any recommendations? Thanks so much, Nicole.

OOPS, I meant that I have had UTI, urinary tract infection, and want to figure how to treat future issues without antibiotics. What’s your thoughts?

    1. Jean Berg says:

D Mannos powder in water washes out UTI.

    2. Clara Kelly says:

I cured a UTI in 24 hours many years ago by taking large amounts of garlic, vitamin C BUTprimarily I give the credit to taking 4 hot sitz baths in a 24 hour period. Really works!

I’m curious as to why you preferred the leadership at DoTerra over Young Living. Thanks!

  13. Have you ever researched grapefruit seed extract ?

Hello! I’m not sure this little discussion is still active but thought I would give it a shot. Robyn – have you ever done the ACS or ACZ with your children? Mine are pretty little ( 2 & 4) and I am gearing up for winter and cold/yuck season. Wasn’t sure if that was something I could use for them too, in addition to our probiotics, etc. Thanks in advance!
