Green smoothies and hospice

I got this email recently from a reader telling us that her grandparent duties would keep her from attending my upcoming Bountiful, Utah class, but she wanted me to know what whole-foods habits had done for her:

Dear GreenSmoothieGirl:

Our family has had a daily green smoothie habit in the past and I can truly say that is the reason I am alive. My dear friend is a devout green smoothie girl. When I was receiving hospice services and not given much hope, she made green smoothies every day and brought them from Kaysville to Ogden EVERY DAY for months! She also provided me with a number of different juices to drink throughout the day: beet, carrot, etc. I have no doubt that her devotion as a friend and her faith in the power of the green smoothie contributed to saving my life. I would like to get back to the green smoothie routine.

Isn’t it lovely to hear that someone who was once on hospice is now so busy being a grandmother, she must think about attending my NEXT class months down the road? Reading this email today reminds me how it’s never too late to make great changes, and how powerful the influence of a good friend can be who is willing to help us. It also reminds me not take our health for granted, and make changes TODAY.

What habit do you want to embrace, or what bad habit needs to go, today?

I was recently at the health food store and a man told me his friend had cancer and went on a diet that consisted only of ground flaxseeds and raw food and she is now healthy and cancer free! Just goes to show that the things we eat really affect our bodies.

Wow…and what a great friend she has!! Beautiful story.

  3. Love this story! I want to kick the sugar habit. I am 1.5 years soda free (yay for me!) and the next step is drastically reduce my sugar intake via baked goods and candy (and maybe one day have the goal of giving it up all together.)
