Introducing Karen Wilbert, GreenSmoothieGirl Makeover [part 3 of 4]

When I watched Karen Wilbert, I turned to Kels and said, “She really touches me. I want to work with her.” I was deeply moved by Karen’s story of six family members undergoing gastric bypass, including both parents and 4 siblings! Two of them have had the procedure twice!

When she came to my home to interview, she walked with a cane. But this is a big improvement since she was once on a feeding tube for a year! She lost 60 lbs. because of malnutrition.

Karen’s health challenges are daunting. Multiple sclerosis is not a quick or easy thing to turn around, like cardiovascular disease, anxiety, and overweight can be. Fatigue and depression mean that we have to fight through early, serious roadblocks to get to the good stuff–the dividends of lifestyle change.

I told her, “We can’t and don’t promise any specific ‘cures’ of health problems.” But Karen is BRAND NEW to the GSG lifestyle and I’m excited to see what happens, because there’s nowhere to go but up, when you’ve hit rock bottom. I was looking for people whose spouses are not highly resistant (uneducated, or mild resistance, yes–all-out opposition, no). Karen’s husband will support this.

I told her, “I’m thrilled to be part of your journey, and I want to educate and help you. My one concern is this: Will you get out of bed and do this?

With many tears, she stated her commitment. Please give her your encouragement in response to this blog entry! Tell her your own experience and give her some love!

I think Karen is ready to live. She is more than 2 years younger than I am–41 years old, far too young to be the “living dead.” Please view her video here.

Introducing the hot women of Total Care Dental: GreenSmoothieGirl Makeover [part 2 of 4]

I’m thrilled to work with Total Care Dental for the GreenSmoothieGirl Makeover pilot. Kels, from BlendTec (an amazing filmmaker) calls them the Hot Dental Office.

These ladies are hot, no lie. (I could tell Kels reaaaaallllly wanted us to pick them!)

Michelle Jorgenson is a dentist who employs half a dozen support staff. All women, all moms–three of them single moms. (Turns out her hygienist is a woman my son calls Mama Mecham, because her son and mine are close friends, and my son is at her house a lot.)

I’m excited to work with them because of the opportunity to impact many people. Dr. Jorgenson is not only a mother of four, but also a professional dedicated to total health, not just cleanings and fillings! She originally came to my site when her female-dentist MasterMind group from all over the U.S. met on the phone. A dentist in San Diego sent all the others to GreenSmoothieGirl.com. Dr. J was amazed to find that I am less than 10 miles from her.

(Recently a local wrote us that she was told about GreenSmoothieGirl.com by her friend in Australia. I love the internet, and how information travels at the speed of light! It’s so awesome when that viral info is positive info. An example of how “life is one eternal round.”)

Not only will we be going into the homes of these women, but we’ll be watching them roll out changes in the office and watching the impact in their lives. One mom is going through a divorce. Another has a baby and is excited to avoid the mistakes I made with my own first baby. (I weaned him onto formula and processed food and dairy milk–to disastrous consequences.)

One mom is a marathon runner and wants to cut her time. (We bonded over our love of competitive sports.) I told her I just *have* to get her started on Hot Pink!

Maybe Mama Mecham’s children’s photos will run here on the blog soon, since she tried green smoothies for the first time recently, and one green mustache actually landed on the forehead as well as upper lip–she also captured her 9-y.o. having a crying tantrum on the floor.

Dr. J will host an event for her patients that I’ll speak at. We’ll watch her and her hygienist discuss the impact of nutrition on dental health, with their patients, one on one, too.

I’m so excited to work with Total Care Dental! We’re getting them blenders and 12 Steps and setting up our first shoot, on-location.

Announcing three winners: GreenSmoothieGirl Makeover [part 1 of 4]

As I mentioned, I got LOTS of video applications. If you wanted to be in our pilot project, and you weren’t selected, please know that if the show takes off and we do more, I will want to work with you then!

One major factor was to choose folks who are VERY NEW to eating right. I was looking for people eating the Standard American Diet who desperately need some training, so we could watch their transformation from ground zero.

For the next three days, I’m announcing the 3 winners, and telling you why I fell in love with them and want to work with them first. I’ll be posting their demo videos.

We’ll create the reality show out of interviews and my consultations with these amazing families. You may not be aware that my family and I were on ABC/Disney’s show Wife Swap several years ago. (The green-smoothie, anti-junk-food lifestyle was, of course, central to the show. They matched us with a family who ate nothing but junk, in Albuquerque.)

Much of the show was manufactured, and I had an interesting experience working with cameras, producers, and directors in a high-pressure situation, a constant presence in my life. To a certain extent, creative license is required in making a show. But my show will be as real as possible because my point isn’t to create entertainment. It’s to give you a peek inside a real-life transformation, so you have inspiration for your own journey.

Will we ever do a “second take?” I’m sure that’ll occasionally be necessary. However, we aren’t going to put words in a family member’s mouth. We aren’t going to manufacture successes. We aren’t going to sugar-coat challenges.

You will be moved and inspired by their real stories–there is a lot of suffering here, but a lot of potential and enthusiasm, too.

Come with us on this exciting journey–make sure you’re subscribed to GreenSmoothieGirl channel on YouTube, so you know when we release each new segment!

The next three days, I’ll introduce you to our three families. We’ll post their demo footage, so you can see what I saw, before I summoned them to meet with BlendTec and me as finalists.

list of recipes we’re whipping up for next week: come have dinner with us!

I spent Monday afternoon at BlendTec watching videos submitted for the GreenSmoothieGirl Makeover show pilot. We watched many emotional pleas, from a lot of passionate people and cute families–and some very tough stories of devastating health problems related to lifestyle and nutrition. Obesity and gastric bypass, diabetes, childhood behavior problems, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, fatigue, depression, terrible physical challenges even for children–lots of folks are really suffering. One video made me cry. I will share the videos with you after I meet with finalists and choose three.

We have openings in the Sandy and Riverdale (Utah) classes for the Tastes of 12 Steps, Part 1 class next week (Thurs. and Fri. night).

And I think they will fill up, like Orem has, so get a ticket now if you haven’t already.

These are recipes we’re going to make, to show you how easy, beautiful, light, and energy-gifting rather than energy-draining, whole foods are:

Green Smoothie 2.0 (You’ve graduated! Now let’s add superfoods!)

Everyday Salad (all the cool things you can do with it!)

Maple Dressing

Spinach Orzo Ensalata

Tangy Dill Dressing

Spicy Sweet Potato Fries Over Quinoa

Rainbow Salad or Carrot-Orange Soup

Almond Joy Fudge

Vanilla Pudding

Anyway, I’m getting excited. Come let us spoil you. You don’t have to own a 12 Steps course to attend, but if you do, bring your manual and your questions!
