Coconut oil benefits going mainstream, part 2 of 2

Dr. Newport talked to Dr. Richard Veech at National Institute of Health and studied everything she could find on coconut oil, fatty acids, human breast milk, and various disease states. She is an M.D. who clearly places a lot of faith, as all M.D.’s have been schooled to do, in the past century’s protocols of drugs to cure illness. But she says this after her self-directed studying and experimenting with her husband’s diet:

“I wonder about autism and whether something very important is missing in infant formulas and in the diets of women who are breastfeeding.”

After the 1950’s, we abandoned the use of coconut oil that was a staple until studies of PARTIALLY HYDROGENATED coconut oils were shown to be detrimental. (There’s a big difference between that and the cold-pressed, organic oil I’m recommending! Hydrogenated oils aren’t real food, as they’ve been heated to high temps and molecularly altered; they are highly damaging to our health.) Then coconut oil was completely bumped from the American lifestyle for 40 years until just recently. I wonder, to what effect? Only time will tell, but back then, we had radically lower rates of heart disease, cancer, and other inflammatory conditions.

Karen W. and her family, for GreenSmoothieGirl Makeover, have been so ill that while the Cornia family and Total Care Dental are off and running, we haven’t been able to get them started. We had an interview on camera where Karen lamented that her closest friends are marathon runners and she wants to be outside running with them instead of lying in bed. She said she’s come to hate the tree outside her bedroom window because she marks time by it, because it’s her only connection to outdoors. Leaves on, leaves off, winter, spring, summer, fall. Karen’s story is killing me!

I am going to give her a gallon of coconut oil and have her, like Dr. Newport’s husband, start using a couple of tablespoons of it daily. We’ll see if it makes a difference for her, with multiple sclerosis symptoms. What do you have to lose? It’s just real food!

(Side note: Karen and her family were at my class at Good Earth last night. She said she told her doctor that she was about to start following the GreenSmoothieGirl program, and her doc said that another of his patients was doing so and was completely off his cholesterol meds. Cool!)

Spread coconut oil on toast like butter. Sautee in it. (It creates no trans-fats, even at high temps!) Use it in cookies or other baked goods. Dr. Newport put 7 tsp. daily in her husband’s morning oatmeal. Slather it on your lips. Slather it on your significant other’s lips and kiss it off. Use it as a facial moisturizer, or on your hands/arms/legs.

You can also use coconut milk, which you can get at health food stores or Asian markets–it’s a combo of coconut oil and coconut liquid.

(Can you tell I’m madly in love with coconut oil? I don’t know that I’d call its taste “haunting” like the rather dramatic New York Times writer, but I love the health benefits!)

Triglycerides drop from 232 to 82! Cholesterol drops from 199 to 96!

My name is Lisa and I ordered your 12 steps last year about this time… original goal was to lose weight….[she talks about how she counts calories and my program does not concern itself with calories….she began by having a green smoothie every single day]…

My starting weight was 230 lbs…….I soon starting losing and went down to 1200 calories but still continued with my GS every morning…..I made sure my GS had a good fat (counted the calories), 1 piece of fruit, and a scoop of protein powder….I lost 50 lbs by December 2010!

I lost 35 inches just in my breast, hips, waist. But the best news of all is my blood work. Last year 2009 my triglycerides were at 232 (they have been as high as 377 in 2005). In December 2010 they are at 82!!!

So I taught my second class in a week at Dr. Christopher’s in Springville last night.

Seems like someone always comes up after a class with a phenomenal story of what happens when you undertake the whole-foods habits I teach. Patricia and Steve Terry (with me below) were the last in line to ask questions and sign their book.

Patricia’s daughter Tricia and other family members were summoned, from out of town, to say goodbye to Patricia’s 89-year old mother. I’m told Grandma was bedridden and dying. Tricia put her on lots of green smoothies and after two weeks, Grandma was not only out of bed, but also mobile, walking on the treadmill, and saying, “I feel like I could run a mile!”

The family was astonished. So Steve, a cardiac patient, was impressed. He got my book  The Green Smoothies Diet. He began the habit himself after blood tests on 5/14/2010. He was waving his test results–turns out he brought me my own copy! His triglycerides were a whopping 389, far more than double the top of the normal range. His blood pressure was 160/110, yikes!

He was excited to tell me that at his blood draw less than 2 months later, he’d lost 30 lbs. The chart he brought from his doctor shows triglycerides at 153, a reduction of over 60%, and blood pressure well into the normal range at 109/81!

I love hearing these stories. Steve and Patricia then catalogued for me all the people in their lives to whom they are enthusiastically endorsing whole foods habits starting with a daily quart of green smoothie.

Green Smoothie Testimonials, Part 13

My New Year’s Resolution was to GO GREEN. My husband and I (yes, I converted him) both love the green smoothies. They are very satisfying. We no longer crave junk food. We have begun to lose a few pounds. I am turning on my grandchildren and children to them. My husband is Hispanic, diabetic, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure. We are seeing improvements.   It has only been a month. We use our BlendTec for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Green Smoothies became a part of my life at the same time that I started eating 100% raw. So the effects are probably due to raw food (which green smoothies are) in general. I do know that the effects have been real for me, and I refer everyone I possibly can to so they can reap the benefits, too.

Many people do not want to go all raw, but they can improve by adding green smoothies, and eating more raw foods. I was able to quit taking oral medications for diabetes after making these changes and have been stable without medications for almost a year, now. I am looking forward to even more improvements as I continue on this path. I am so grateful for Robyn and for the contribution she has made to the community in helping people to understand this vital information. I am convinced that health and longevity is based on what we put in and on our bodies, and that we are responsible for our own health and vitality. If we are not willing to do what is necessary, Nature will impose the consequences.

It’s hard to look at this data without being compelled to give green smoothies a try!
