My favorite new accessory—makes blending thick stuff a breeze!

Blendtec’s stock with me just went through the roof!

I’ve just received the coolest accessory I’ve ever seen. A raw-foodist’s dream!  I knew you’d want to know about it, if you have a Blendtec Total Blender or are getting one soon.

Look at my video demo making my fabulous (no dairy, no sugar, no guilt) Butter Pecan Ice Cream, showing how you NEVER waste food, you never have to burn out a motor, get food all over your arm, or struggle with a spatula because of Blendtec’s engineering marvel THE TWISTER.

It makes thick nut butters, raw pie crusts, pastes, baby food, sauces, frostings, pates, candies, ice creams, and so much more, instantly, with no drama. The thick stuff used to be the recipes I hated to make, even though they are needed to serve anything truly gourmet. But no more!

It’s a short, small blender jar. As the blade in the jar spins, a sharp tine spins the opposite direction in the jar, scraping the food off the inside of the jar and down to the bottom. The “Spectacula” spatula gets all the food out of the bottom of the jar, with nothing lost and no mess.

I’ve been waiting for them to release this exciting accessory since I beta tested it for Blendtec last year and said HOW FAST CAN I GET THEM?? We’ve had it in stock but they wouldn’t let me announce until June 1!

It’s brilliant, and you’ve got to have this in your kitchen. I think you’ll be in love with it like I am!

Oh, and in the video, I’m showing you my really delicious Butter Pecan Ice Cream recipe. You’ll get that recipe, free, with a Twister purchase.

Green Smoothie Testimonials, part 3

I’m 44 years old. I’ve always had very regular menstrual cycles. For about one year prior to drinking green smoothies, my menstrual cycles had become very irregular. After about two months of green smoothies, I returned to a very regular cycle of 20 – 30 days and my periods are just like they were in my 20’s and 30’s.  I’ve been drinking my quart of green smoothie per day for six months now and my cycles are consistently regular.

I love green smoothies! I drink them every morning, and I was so surprised how great they make me feel! I have lost weight, have lots of energy, feel healthier than ever and feel like my immune system is even stronger than it was.

Drinking green smoothies also influenced all of my eating and cooking decisions, and allowed me to lose weight safely. When we travel, I am always carrying my blender with me so I can have green smoothies anywhere I go!

My 20 month old daughter also loves them. I am sure that green smoothies are the best way to get babies/toddlers to get their greens. She gets so excited when I get out the blender and she always wants more! Thank you, green smoothies, and thank you to my friend, Tara, for introducing them to me!

I drink a quart of an all-vegetable green smoothie every day. I have more energy, sleep better, wake up ready for the day, and generally feel much better. I believe it’s because of the green smoothie and a whole foods diet, mostly raw. I have cut out all processed foods, sugar, and caffeine, and I feel great! Thanks for your website; it’s very informative and inspiring!

After a few weeks of drinking green smoothies via wimpy blender, we were hooked and made our best nutritional investment to date–BlendTec. Our green smoothies have become greener and we have been known to eat 3-4 bunches of greens and 1 pound of baby spinach in a week between two adults and two toddlers.

I sometimes find myself looking around at all the green plants and wonder, “What would that taste like?”  I was skeptical at first, but my then-barely-two yr. old and three-yr.-old both enjoyed the green smoothies as well. They were converted before my husband!

Summer proves to be an easier time to drink them due to the warmer weather.   However, we still maintain regular GS drinking throughout all the seasons. I do not have to force them on my toddlers; rather, they will request them and are especially excited to help put all the ingredients into the blender.

GS have helped control my sugar cravings, eliminated Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and boosted my energy. My kids have regular bowel movements that do not have the stench as pre-GS days.

It is best to start children early on GS as it will develop their palate towards REAL, nutritionally sound foods.

benefits of drying food . . . part 2 of 3

So what are the benefits of drying food?   Pressure cooking preserves food, too, but kills all the enzymes at 240 degrees.   Canning also destroys water soluble vitamins.   Freezing is the other best way to keep your fruit and vegetables, but nutrients are lost over time, and most people just can’t keep much in their limited freezer space.   I have a large freezer and two fridges with small freezers–and I still never have enough room to preserve everything I want to keep.

Dehydrating with Excalibur is safe, with dark doors to avoid nutrition loss from light.   The 3000 model has an automatic 26-hour timer so you can leave food drying overnight or even while you’re out of town.

Storebought fruit leathers and dehydrated fruits often contain sulfites, sugar or corn syrup, and other preservatives and chemicals.   They’re also expensive!   At the end of summer, I often pick fruit from my neighbors’ trees that would otherwise go to waste.   (Make sure you get permission first!)   Dried apricots are one of my favorite things, and they’re so easy to make: just wash them, pop them in half, and put them on the dryer trays until dry.  You can also puree fruit in your BlendTec Total Blender, pour it onto the Teflex sheets, and dry it into fruit leather.

To make the crackers, chips, flavored almonds, and other fun stuff in the Crunchy Snacks Recipe Collection, or all the fun stuff in Ch. 7 of 12 Steps to Whole Foods, you definitely need a food dehydrator.   It’s a great way to make inexpensive, “live” snacks that nourish you well.

So here’s the link to get all the benefits of drying food:

the best food dehydrator on the market . . . part 1 of 3

Today I’m telling you about one of my favorite tools for incorporating fantastic plant-food nutrition into your diet.   This is my favorite appliance, second only to the BlendTec Total Blender.   It’s the Excalibur dehydrator, my “oven,” the best rated food dehydrator in the world.   See if the person who loves you most wants to get you this for Christmas:

You can buy cheaper food dryers.   The cheap ones do not have temperature controls, unfortunately, so if you’re going to buy one of the small, Walmart-type brands, you’ll have to vent by opening up the trays, and use a thermometer to try to control the heat to not go above 116 degrees.

But you truly can’t buy one better for preserving the nutrition in raw foods than Excalibur’s.   If you have a family, you can also make big batches because the 3000 models have nine trays, so you can dry several recipes at once, or doubled/tripled batches.

Excalibur is not only the gold standard in dehydrating, but the company knows raw food well and is used and endorsed by all the pre-eminent raw foodists (Cousens, Boutenko, Kulvinskas, and more).   Dehydrating is the best way to preserve the essential properties of fruits and vegetables, and those are ENZYMES, VITAMINS, and MINERALS.   It’s also a great way to preserve the summer harvest and stock up your pantry with LIVE food.

Last comments about WHY BUY BLENDTEC rather than VitaMix

By the way, a nice thing about having two machines (or three, like I have) is that as a GSG evangelist, you want to lend someone a machine. I *always* have my second VM lent out. For a while my cleaning lady had it while she saved for her own, and currently my teaching assistant, Parker, has it, because he’s a Brigham Young University wide receiver and needs more energy. It’s usually one of my starving university students who identifies himself as having health problems or an interest in nutrition I lend it to. You cannot believe how many of my students (average age: 21) have Crohn’s disease, celiac disease, chronic constipation or diarrhea, energy problems, Epstein Barr, brain tumor, energy problems, and much more. Every semester I have one or two bring me the university form to show me they have a disability related to chronic, diet-related health problems. It’s the university’s way of saying, “Sometimes this student can’t even get out of bed, so please be understanding and work with her.”

I’ve never had one of them start making GS  who didn’t have a very exciting improvement in health problems.
So, to summarize:

BlendTec vs. VitaMix (which are the same price):

BlendTec’s square container design has a wide base allowing you to scrape the food out easily, avoiding wasted food like the VM causes, which drives me nuts when I make something thick. The BlendTec fits under your kitchen counter, unlike the very tall VM. It travels so much more easily than the VM because the base is more compact and fits neatly in a suitcase. It doesn’t require you to muscle the food in physically with the tamper–centrifugal force does the work. It blends grain into flour without requiring you to purchase a separate $80 “dry” container. If you have a big family, you can get an extra-large container if you want, only with BlendTec. The blade on the BlendTec has a lifetime warranty, which is huge since if you use it a lot, blades eventually dull. Last but not least, it’s just more powerful–3 hp compared to VM’s 2.5.

I want EVERYONE to have this very important tool, which I consider not just the coolest and most important thing I own in my kitchen, but the coolest and most important thing I own, PERIOD.

Re:                   Blendtec Warranty Information

Blendtec home blender warranty FAQ’s

Question – Is there any restriction on the number of times a machine can be used during the warranty period?

Answer – NO. There is no cycle restriction on the home machine warranty. It can be used many times per day without any concern about going over a usage limit. Some may be confusing the warranty for a commercial machine with the home warranty, but they are two different things.

Question – How is Blendtec’s home warranty different from other manufacturers?

Answer – Comparing warranty coverage across different types of machines with different features and components is a little like trying to compare apples to oranges. But when compared to similar home machines which utilize current technologies, Blendtec has a standard three year warranty on the critical motor and electronic components, whereas other small appliance manufacturers only offer a 90 day or perhaps a one-year warranty for machines costing almost as much as a Blendtec.

Some don’t offer any warranty at all on the jar or drive shaft, which are key components in a blender’s function, but Blendtec offers a one-year warranty on the blender jar, and a lifetime warranty on the blade and drive socket. And if a jar should need to be replaced after the warranty period, Blendtec’s jar is less than half the cost of other high end machines. Some manufacturers don’t even offer replacement parts, so if a jar goes bad, the entire machine is a loss. Not so with Blendtec.

Blendtec makes the world’s strongest blenders and has had machines in constant use for decades. The return percentage for machines needing repair is among the lowest in the industry. Blendtec’s machines are Made in the USA using the highest quality components and materials. Blendtec is a continuous improvement company which means as new technology or production processes become available, Blendtec’s engineering department incorporates those changes into every product it sells.

Some companies which rely on outdated technology and don’t offer the state-of-the-art machines that Blendtec does may have longer warranties, but they don’t offer the value, power, and functions that a Blendtec machine has.

When you’re talking about processing whole foods, raw fruits and vegetables, whole grains, or ice, just ask the important question “Will It Blend?”, and with a Blendtec blender the answer is “Yes, it blends!”
