BENEFITS OF REBOUNDING
I think rebounding is perfect for someone at home with small children, or someone who likes to watch TV (because you can easily do it while watching). For over 10 years, while my children were small and I couldn’t get to a gym or outside to run, I did The Firm workouts (plus a bunch of step aerobic tapes I had). They were great, but I got seriously sick of them. I haven’t done them once, since I joined the gym 6 years ago. (I dusted them off and gave them to a friend recently.)
You have to find something you can do in the time you have, and Dr. Robert O. Young thinks 15-min. sessions on the rebounder are perfect (do 2 or 3 sessions a day if you’re competitive). This is perfect for young moms, because as my formerly professional friends and I bemoan, the life of a mom is carved up into 15-min. snippets. (No wonder we get “mommie brain” and seem to lose our ability to focus for any stretch of time!)
While you jump, isolate specific muscle groups for a better toning experience. It’s important to get one of the best mini trampoline rebounders, because a cheap one can harm your nerves, tendons, and joints, which defeats your purpose! You can tell a good one because it has 6 legs, 36 four-inch springs made of good wire, shielded by a cover, with tapered coils (which last longer). The mat should be made from Permatron material, which is smooth, sewn together with 6,000 stitches of nylon. The material should not stretch when you land on it—the springs should be doing all the work.
Needak Health Rebounder is the only one I found that fits this description, and all I found at my local sporting goods stores were cheap $40 models. I bought mine online (see link below). I bounce on it for 15 minutes every night before bed, while I watch Tivo’d TV in order to turn my brain off. (Then my TV watching isn’t just wasting time, right?)
People who need it can buy the optional stabilizing bar for their workouts as well, for something to hold onto. You should be able to fold up the legs and put it out of sight. One model (for an extra $40) allows you to fold the rebounder in half for easy traveling. Here’s where you get it:
