Lavender Oil – A Healing Story by Megan
Have you ever been on a long flight across the country and there is a baby who won’t stop shrieking? That is precisely what happened to me when I was headed to Portland last month. I tried to tune out the horrendous crying but the tension on the plane was growing, so I decided to grab my Lavender oil (calming, anti-anxiety) and head back to see if the mom was open to trying it. Upon approaching little 14-month-old Grace, I saw that she was bright red, kicking, screaming, and in full on temper-tantrum mode. Her poor mom had three other kids with her and looked completely frazzled. I asked if the baby had any allergies and the mom said “no,” so I explained that I had some organic, pure, high-quality Lavender oil that might help her calm down. The mom said “yes, I’ll try anything!” I put the oil on Grace’s feet and then let her inhale the scent and rubbed a bit on her chest. Her mom thanked me and then I walked to the rear of the plane to use the restroom while I was up. It took about 5 minutes to get through the line, but as I walked back to my seat I realized that it was QUIET! No more Grace screaming!! Furthermore, as I walked by the mom and that area of the plane, I received a round of applause from the nearby passengers because little Grace had fallen asleep. Now that is the awesome power of natural, healing plant-based medicine for everyday situations.
Lavender Oil – A Healing Story by Tammy
I have experienced (some may say suffer) post-partum and anti-partum depression/mood disorders several times. The moment I thought I might be pregnant with my most recent child I began my quest for a natural solution to this disorder. I had heard that essential oils can be a powerful tool for improving emotional well-being. I wanted to find out more so I searched the internet for “essential oils for postpartum depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder”. From that search I learned that Lavender essential oil, when smelled, can greatly boost one’s emotional well-being.
I like to know a little about how and why things work the way they do – especially something as seemingly simple and “unconventional” as essential oils. So, I did further research. I found that on emotional level Lavender oil is known as the “oil of communication”. It helps calm insecurities while relieving negative emotions such as feelings of being unlovable and unimportant. Lavender helps in giving one the courage to communicate their innermost thoughts and feelings.
Something to note about using essentials aromatically……We have what is called a limbic systemlimbic system which is the part of our brain that houses our emotions and memories. When an essential oil is inhaled those aromatic molecules go straight into the limbic system thus, producing an immediate emotional response. That is why smelling Lavender is effective in elevating negative mood states; it produces an immediate and positive emotional response.
With this new-found knowledge I used Lavender oil throughout the pregnancy. I’ll tell you, in struggling from post-partum depression I am grateful for a natural tool to help me communicate and feel loved – because isn’t that at least a part of what most experience when they are depressed? Feelings of being unloved and struggling with the inability to communicate those feelings – either out of fear or apathy?

My niece got pink eye and was ready to go to urgent care to get some meds for it. I told her she could use my Lavender and Melaleuca essential oils. She put some of each on her eye sockets right under each eye for three days, and the pink eye disappeared. So much for urgent care and spending money on prescription drugs!

My sweet little old neighbor rips her skin so easily and doesn’t heal quickly at all. I put Lavender on a band-aid and she healed so quickly, that she bought her own bottle right away.
I use Lavender to help my allergies and for skin care after shaving too.
We went camping with friends and after it was dark were hanging out by the camp fire. My adult friend yelled out in pain because something had climbed up her pants and bit her. My husband and I both jumped up. I went to grab my Lavender and he grabbed his first aid kit. I won and put Lavender on before he could find his ointment. I reapplied 5 minutes later and she was completely fine.
Lastly, two of my boys were stung by bees on their necks a week apart from each other and were fine after one application of Lavender.
Lavender is a staple in our home.

A friend of mine has had trouble sleeping through the night. She often wakes up and can’t get back to sleep. In the morning she doesn’t feel rested. I suggested she try Lavender Oil. She started using it on the bottom of her feet every night and told me that she now sleeps much better. If she wakes up, she goes back to sleep and she feels rested in the morning.

I gave out some samples at a women’s retreat in April, and one woman took a sample of Lavender Oil. The next day she told me that she had a rash on her face the night before and after she put the Lavender Oil on it, it disappeared. She told me how great it was and how it helped her to have a good weekend.

Purify Oil Blend – A Healing Story by Tammy
I love to swim! What I don’t love, however, is the lingering smell and damage from the chlorine.
We all know chlorine is in the water to sanitize, oxidize and prevent strange, often slimy organisms from growing in the water. We also all know that chlorine can wreak havoc on us if we are not careful. Over exposure has been linked to cancer, respiratory problems and hormonal changes; among other things. Ever seen anybody with brittle, dried up blue/green hair? I have. Ewwwwww!
Having that in mind I have a routine for detoxifying after a swim or being otherwise exposed to chlorine. Remember to give your body the nutrients it needs and stay hydrated so it is able to detoxify at its peak.
So, having said that #1 – I wash my hair with a homemade shampoo with Lavender Oil added to it. If you don’t want to make your own shampoo doTERRA makes a nice one.
Now, it’s counterproductive to use chemicals on your body when you are trying to get chemicals off of your body, so, #2 is a nice soak in a tub full of Epsom salts and lavender. The salts are full of minerals that draw the toxins out.
#3 After bathing and drying off I lather my skin in a natural lotion with a few added drops of Purify Oil Blend. The lotion helps the Purify Oil Blend spread over the skin nicely so the it can do it’s job of removing the chlorine throughout the cells in my body.
So in maintaining a healthy lifestyle and doing this routine after I swim, hopefully I can maintain my nice normal colored hair, soft skin and healthy body, and you can too!
