FROZEN DESSERTS

These days, there’s no excuse to not eat healthy! You can get virtually ANYTHING you like in the junk-food world, in a vastly more nutritious version. You just have to know where to look! I’m not a big ice cream eater, but I was in my 20’s. I wish I’d known this stuff before I ate gallons of Ben ‘N Jerry’s!

In this video, I’m showing you really delicious alternatives to ice cream that won’t damage your health like dairy and sugar will. You can get them at your health food store–and if you can’t, you’ll at least get a sense of what I look for when I read labels, to evaluate the selections where YOU shop.

Educate your kids about nutrition!

Here’s my video showing Tennyson why food matters in his life, and why he

should make good decisions about food.

He’s no different than you and me. He needs REASONS. And praise.

Here are my tips for teaching your kids–some I mention on the video, and

some you’ll just see me DOING:

1. Make it relevant to their lives. (In Ten’s case, link it to sports

performance.)

2. Keep it short. (I didn’t do a good job of this in the video. This

was for your benefit to tell you a bunch of things you can say to YOUR

kids.)

3. Make it interesting.

4. Make it visual.

5. Involve them. Ask them questions.

6. Avoid clichés like “eat your greens.” Tell them WHY eat greens.

7. Use car time. We spend a lot of time in the car. They’re trapped

there. So talk to them about things that matter when they can’t roll their

eyes and run away.

8. Ask them what they notice, when they eat right, and praise their

good choices!

Introducing Karen Wilbert, GreenSmoothieGirl Makeover [part 3 of 4]

When I watched Karen Wilbert, I turned to Kels and said, “She really touches me. I want to work with her.” I was deeply moved by Karen’s story of six family members undergoing gastric bypass, including both parents and 4 siblings! Two of them have had the procedure twice!

When she came to my home to interview, she walked with a cane. But this is a big improvement since she was once on a feeding tube for a year! She lost 60 lbs. because of malnutrition.

Karen’s health challenges are daunting. Multiple sclerosis is not a quick or easy thing to turn around, like cardiovascular disease, anxiety, and overweight can be. Fatigue and depression mean that we have to fight through early, serious roadblocks to get to the good stuff–the dividends of lifestyle change.

I told her, “We can’t and don’t promise any specific ‘cures’ of health problems.” But Karen is BRAND NEW to the GSG lifestyle and I’m excited to see what happens, because there’s nowhere to go but up, when you’ve hit rock bottom. I was looking for people whose spouses are not highly resistant (uneducated, or mild resistance, yes–all-out opposition, no). Karen’s husband will support this.

I told her, “I’m thrilled to be part of your journey, and I want to educate and help you. My one concern is this: Will you get out of bed and do this?

With many tears, she stated her commitment. Please give her your encouragement in response to this blog entry! Tell her your own experience and give her some love!

I think Karen is ready to live. She is more than 2 years younger than I am–41 years old, far too young to be the “living dead.” Please view her video here.

RETREAT 2011!

I’m so excited to announce the 2011 GreenSmoothieGirl retreat, Overthrowing the Standard American Diet, One Family at a Time!

Come meet my posse of amazing nutrition-superhero friends–parents, authors, and chefs, all of them!–at Noah’s in Lindon, Utah, this April 21-23. We will instruct and inspire you in a direction that can profoundly change your life for the better.

My staff will cater meals featuring each author’s favorite recipes. We’ll be doing demos, workshops, panels, and all kinds of other fun stuff like yoga and mini-massages and meditations! The group will be small enough that you can meet and ask questions and get your books signed by any and all of the participants.

Bring the kids so we can change their paradigm too and let them rub shoulders with other kids and families who care about health and nutrition! They’ll visit an organic indoor farm, tour the healthy parts of a grocery store, and learn in lots of ways to cook and enjoy healthy food.

We have only 200 adult seats at the retreat, and all the other six authors participating will be announcing to their folks in a few days. You’re hearing it here first, so please grab your seat now.

If you register before Feb. 15, you get fun giveaways worth over $150 from EVERY ONE of the 7 superhero authors: tons of recipes, meal planners, gluten-free info, and support! Check it all out HERE.

Can’t wait!!
