What are food intolerances?

  1. The “perfect” diet? No such thing. But the closest humans can come in this world? Think about it. If there was indeed a “garden of eden,” and not just a fable concocted by a bunch of zealotic old farts for the “bestseller” known as the bible to try and keep humanity guilt-ridden, what would have been the readily available foods?

    Ok, accept that such a place would have been equatorial or close to it. African studies over the years suggest that it was. Being pre-agriculture, the only foods would’ve been fruits and leafy greens. Possibly nuts, but only fresh off the tree at a certain time of the year, unlike today. Doubt there would’ve been tomatoes, potatoes, cauliflower, onions—you get the idea.

    So fruits and leafy greens. No limits, no counting calories. I just finished a 40 day experiment with this first “biblical” program. No grains, dairy, meat, eggs, nuts, legumes, oils, or avocadoes. A few spices on my veggies. No more cravings (although periodic recurrences but fleeting), weight stabilized (was skinny, now weight proportional to height), hair and nails glossy and full, lost the gray, teeth and gums strong, instant muscle recovery, attention-getting singing voice (never had before), no injuries, no soreness, can do everything I could physically that I could as a 25-year old (I’m 67).

    Yet the tradeoff has been the social isolation that many vegan, raw vegan, and lfrv followers often talk about.
    Plus the “fun” foods taste good. And you think, I have to eat this way the rest of my life in order to enjoy superlative and rejuvenative health?

    And that’s why “health-conscious” individuals can talk all they want about the pros and cons of this and that diet. Most will never experience rejuvenative health because no one wants to face the dilemma of having perfect health at the expense of fitting in to what society says is fun, and what else is food in our society, but fun and community, inextricably entwined.

    The “perfect” diet is out there. Simple. Not easy. Our need for social “fitting-in” is our strongest drive, even more than sexual considerations. Take a look at even the “health-nuts.” They believe they’re eating healthier, and they are. They may look better than before, with no illness. But are they looking younger, with no artificial help? Are they rejuvenating?

    Even suggesting trying this simple eating program for two weeks will, I’m sure, fall on deaf ears. Having to deal with old notions and “shoulds” along with the overwhelming human desire to fit in will have even the most health-aware individuals looking for excuses and rationale to avoid trying this “garden of eatin’ eden.”

    Would love to hear from anyone who has tried for a period of time this simplest of concepts. Not just a day or two, but two weeks minimum, no cheats. Did you not experience dramatic differences in all aspects of your health?


    1. Did this. Cut all items 100% for a month. Felt amazing – went from 142 to 127. From size 8 to size 4, for the first time in my life. Couldn’t keep it up, but I think that’s because my husband is addicted to the S.A.D. and all these items are in the house all the time. If I controlled 100% of what’s in the house, I could have kept it up. Everyone at work asked me how I did it – when I leant them the book or told them, the response was always ‘I could never do that.’ I wish they’d try. I take another whack at it from time to time. As JJ says – it’s simple, but it’s not easy.

      1. Want to add, I didn’t do it to lose weight. I wanted to sleep better, get rid of aching joints and ditch migraines, all of which did happen. The weight loss was a nice consequence. Chase health and the weight takes care of itself.

    2. Hi Dave, thank you for your input. It is easy to feel like an outsider when you follow a specific regimen for the sake of health. We are happy to hear you had a positive experience following your regimen of leafy greens and fruits. And you’re right…there is no perfect diet but we believe there are “better-for-you” diets.

    3. Hey Dave, i did it backwards and it’s been so much easier. Instead of eliminating first, i added in the leafy greens and fruit via the GOL Raw Perfect Food Greens. I’ve been drinking as much as i want. And what I’ve noticed is that in getting enough nutrients I’ve naturally stopped choosing less healthy food when i do eat a meal, but instead choose fruit, veggies, salad, pico de gallo…. all the stuff i would Never have voluntarily chosen in the past. Even at parties, I’m so busy savouring the healthy stuff, i don’t even notice the other food because it no longer appeals to me. And if i do have some, it’s no big deal, because it’s so rare- and tends to be fairly healthy anyway. I am actually repulsed by most of the SAD food now. Shocking – I never imagined i would get this way, but it has taken a couple years for my cravings to transform so completely (and i still have cheese and ice cream on occasion).
