Contest for Prizes: What’s in MY fridge, and YOURS!

fridge1My 17-yo daughter Emma was examining the contents of our fridges and said, “Mom, you should take a photo of what we eat, because it’s so pretty.” (Update: Emma is going to college on a full-ride soccer scholarship! She’s a 6-year vegetarian, and erstwhile vegan, with a goal of being a career humanitarian, running a non-profit in Latin America.)

Good idea, Emma. Done. Here’s the left side fridge, right side fridge, and the two together.

(Tons of YouTube subscribers have asked me if I got a double-wide fridge. No, they aren’t like trailers—double-wides don’t exist, I think. It’s two fridges, and we moved the handle on one of them to the other side.)

Aren’t whole foods prettier than chicken nuggets and burgers and milk and pepperoni and Lunchables and cans of soda?

fridge2Be the first to accurately identify 10 items in my fridges, by POSTING A REPLY here. (When I go to approve comments, we can see who was first, and we’ll show you and get your address then.)

The first wins a 12 Steps to Whole Foods course manual ($99.95). Be the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th, and win an autographed copy of The Green Smoothies Diet.

Ready, set, GO!

Emma just read this and said, “Tell them we want to see what’s in THEIR fridge, and give them prizes for that!”

fridges3Great idea. Take a photo of the inside of your fridge, and send it to us with a list of what’s in it. Whether it’s GOOD, BAD, or UGLY. The best one wins a 12 Steps to Whole Foods manual, and so does the one in most desperate need of a FRIDGE MAKEOVER!

Send a photo of the inside of YOUR fridge to support123@greensmoothiegirl.com and we’ll post them on the blog later! Feel free to tell us a sob story about the contents of your fridge. Everybody here at GSG needs a laugh.

  11. When I clicked on the link in your newsletter yesterday morning, it did not take me to the correct page, but I finally found it by clicking on your blog. However, there was no place to “reply” (guess either your computer or mine was being cranky), so I just emailed the contents of your fridge that I had time to identify before leaving for church. I don’t see many replies by people listing the contents of their own fridge, so I will list mine:

    Fresh fruit:
delicious apples, gala apples, clementine oranges, bananas, red grapes, pineapple, limes, avocados

    Dried fruit:
    organic raisins, organic figs, dates

    Frozen fruit:
blueberries, sweet cherries, tart cherries, strawberries, mango, homegrown apples

    Vegetables:
celery, green onions, cauliflower, carrots, broccoli, asparagus, green beans, organic beets, organic red cabbage, red onions, various salad/smoothie greens, dried hedge apples (for medicinal use), Nori sea vegetables

    Oils:
flax seed oil, red palm oil, avocado oil, sweet almond oil, coconut cream, cod liver oil, organic castor oil (for castor oil packs)

    Dairy & Eggs:
kefir, yogurt, cream (all organic store-bought, as my goats are not being milked right now), butter, fresh eggs from my chickens,

    Nuts & seeds:
raw soaked almonds, organic peanut butter, pecans, organic pumpkin seed, organic flax seed, organic chia seed, organic sunflower seeds, brown rice (rarely used, as we are currently eating grain-free)

    Herbs/Spices:
fresh ginger root, plus bulk quantities of several herbs that we feed our goats

    Condiments:
homemade vinaigrette, homemade Ranch (made with kefir & yogurt), homemade ketchup, homemade fermented sauerkraut

Meat (my husband is a HUGE meat eater, but I eat only about 1 serving a week):
    venison, wild turkey, home-grown free-range chicken, home-grown grass-fed beef

We live 120 miles from the nearest source for organic foods, so I mostly buy what will keep at least 3-6 months, as I don’t get to shop there often. I have not been able to have a garden for the past 3 years, partly due to the extreme drought we are in and partly because of a physical handicap, but I hope to have a small garden next year.
