Alternatives to Antibiotics
Winter’s coming up. The more raw plant foods you eat, and the more Chapter 8 probiotic-foods habits you incorporate into your diet, the more your body become inhospitable to viruses and infections.
But be prepared to nip the baddies in the butt, the minute you feel symptoms coming on, with natural alternatives to antibiotics. The sooner you get on it, the more effective natural solutions are.
In fact, even if people around me are getting sick, or if traveling soon, I start taking Kyolic garlic caps, goldenseal herb caps, spraying ACS and ACZ in my mouth every few hours, and licking On Guard off the back of my hand every few hours.
I don’t do goldenseal or OnGuard all the time—otherwise the body adapts and the effectiveness isn’t high when I need it. But the immune system needs to buck up when the flu is going around!
Right now my favorite ant-viral, anti-bacterial solutions, are two things that work in very different ways:
One, doTERRA’s On Guard essential oils blend. A microbiologist presented her research on it, at the convention in September, showing how On Guard killed MRSA in a petri dish, with many experiments over the course of a year. She used just 2-3 drops—more did not increase effectiveness.
Vancomycin, the antibiotic drug of choice for MRSA, was quite ineffective, in comparison. It is well known to take several days to begin to achieve its kill effect. And unfortunately, antibiotic drugs are not cell-selective as natural remedies generally are. They do a lot of ‘collateral damage,’ including killing off the good bacteria needed to keep bad bacteria in check for the future!
You can just put On Guard on the back of your hand and lick it off. When we had coach certification coming up, my ex-husband, my neighbors, and lots of people around me were getting sick. I gave my kids and my key employees a little bottle of On Guard and told them to use it every few hours, and I did the same. None of us got sick—then, or afterwards!
Talk to our support team at support123@greensmoothiegirl.com about how to get some at wholesale cost.
Using On Guard is like using 200 different cell-selective “bullets,” whereas Vancomycin is just one “bullet.” So the adaptogenic organisms in your body can’t mutate and create defenses against a 200-bullet approach, like it can fairly easily, with a one-strain antibiotic drug.
Two, ACZ nano for chelating toxins out of the body, and ACS 200 silver for killing all kinds of viral and bacterial organisms, only bad ones. They are phenomenal products to have on hand and use regularly, especially in the winter.
And look HERE, HERE, and HERE at my blog series from last year, regarding alternatives my readers and I have found to be very effective. Oh, and one more, the Top 10 ideas I got from my readers. When you’re armed with effective natural solutions, which are cell-specific and don’t harm gut flora, you don’t have to get sick repeatedly, and you don’t have awful side effects like thrush and vaginal yeast infections. Sometimes those side effects can go on for years!
Some of the holistic practitioners I work with say the body can spend literally decades trying to recover from the devastation of a single course of antibiotics.
(Doing Step 8 to 12 Steps to Whole Foods is a MUST, if you’ve ever been on an antibiotic and need to rebuild your gut health. Making and eating cultured foods can rebuild that all-important healthy GI tract where most of your body’s defenses happen.)
Robyn:
I would like to incorporate more cultured foods as outlined in Chapter 8 of your 12 Steps to Whole Foods. We have severe lactose intolerance issues at my house, and have had great success using water kefir rather than milk kefir. The recipes in Chapter 8 use the whey from milk kefir. Is there a way I can use water kefir instead?
Why do you have to lick the Onguard? Also, the ACZ and ACS – I’d like to better understand why I need those and how often I would use them. I think the reason Antibiotics are so often used as it is cut and dry. You get sick so you take meds. With oils and othertypes of natural remedies it gets a little blurry as to how to use them. Thanks for the clarification.
Robyn, what do you think of the Goat milk Kefirs sold in stores? I bought on recently, have been drinking about an ounce every day for almost a week and I developed a lot of mucus (gross) and coughing caused by it, in my throat. I thought maybe it was just allergies but I can’t remember the last time I had mucus like this except when I used to use Half and Half in my coffee, which I’ve stopped for at least a year. Amazingly, the mucus I used to produce decreased dramatically and I didn’t even realize it was being caused by the half and half until I realized one day I hadn’t had a yucky throat for a while. Along with that, the skin of my lower legs improved (eczema). I use a coconut creamer in my coffee but will keep looking for alternatives as I don’t like the carageenan and cane sugar in it but I have a hard time drinking black coffee.
So I wanted to add kefir to my daily routine but I don’t know if it’s causing the mucus I am now experiencing. I can stop and restart it to test it but I thought I’d hear your opinions on it too.
Thank you in advance for your time.
Wanted to add that it is not raw and it is not organic Goat’s milk Kefir, if it matters. (I did not see any of the raw variety, unsurprisingly).
Robyn,
I was wondering if you have an opinion of other oil companies. I was told that you had do Terra oils at one of your classes. How much research into them have you done? Have you researched others? I am very interested in them.
I love On Guard and all doTERRA essential oils! I am happy to tell you how to get them at wholesale price. Please email me at amanda@greensmoothiegirl.com if you are interested in learning more. Thank you!
Robyn- do you have any links for the study that the microbiologist published?! What journal was it in?! I’m taking an epidemiology class, and I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to add this to our discussions!! Or if you remember her name I can look it up I’m sure…. THANKS!
Love what you do, you’re such an inspiration!
Cheers,
Katie
Hi Robyn,
I’m so excited to learn there are alternatives to antibiotics. I’ve recently had several URIs and didn’t want to be forced to take antibiotics. Unfortunately, i was ignorant of other methods. What would you recommend for treatment of URI?
Hi Robyn,
My dermatologist recommended antibiotics recently for my acne – would the above natural remedies work the same and clear my skin without damaging my intestinal flora? I have yet to start taking the anti-biotics because I’d like to explore other options first.
Thanks.
Hi Robyn,
First I want to thank you because thanks to your teachings (I tell everybody you are my guru) I drink green smoothies every day and have become a vegetarian (3 years now). I’ve never felt better!
Now to my question, related to antibiotics. We are traveling to Peru in December and have been told to start antibiotics so we don’t get diarrhea. I think I remember you where there? I normally don’t take anything (besides my smoothies) but I really don’t want to get sick on my vacation. Any recommendations? Thanks so much, Nicole.
OOPS, I meant that I have had UTI, urinary tract infection, and want to figure how to treat future issues without antibiotics. What’s your thoughts?
Thanks
I’m curious as to why you preferred the leadership at DoTerra over Young Living. Thanks!
Have you ever researched grapefruit seed extract ?
Amy, sure, use water kefir!
Goat milk kefir is good!
Lisa, I studied them off and on for 15 years. I think Young Living brand has good quality as well. Haven’t found any others that do, and was far more impressed by the company leadership at doTERRA.
I wouldn’t presume to say non-AB options will work “the same” but I personally would never use an AB in a non-urgent situation like that without exhausting all other options first. The long term effects of AB’s are so negative and significant.
Nicole, the best way I know of to GET diarrhea is to take abtibiotics! Before you go and while you are there, do lots of cultured foods, step 8 of 12 steps!
Hi! This is Kristin. Robyn is in eastern europe right now but she has followed both companies for quite a few years, knows the principals of both, and in a public forum wishes to say that one is massively more successful for some very good reasons.
