Dietary philosophy and supplements

DIETARY PHILOSOPHY

Dr. Connealy’s program, executed by her nutritionist, Liliana, is 80% alkaline and 20% acid foods (like animal products, grains, berries). They feed patients 20% fat, 30% protein, 50% carbs in the form of veggies, and about 50% raw in the form of vegetables, 2 green juices, and two salads daily. They do not serve any foods with dairy or gluten, and use only minimal grains and starchy vegetables (potatoes, yams, carrots, sweet vegetables). No more than 20 grams of sugar (no refined sugars) per meal.

SUPPLEMENTS DR. CONNEALY PRESCRIBES

Dr. Connealy says, “Every drug causes a nutritional deficiency. You must supply nutrients against the deficiency. For instance, Metformin causes B vitamin deficiency. Statin drugs deplete CoQ10. Red yeast rice also depletes CoQ10.”

I like how she studies the work of other pioneers and revolutionaries in integrative medicine and references and leverages their work regularly. (This is critical so that practitioners build on a foundation and everyone isn’t reinventing the wheel. Some, however, like Stanislaw Burzynski, truly invented “a wheel,” if not “the wheel.”)

She uses some of the research and/or best practices of Dr. Nick Gonzales, the Nobel Prize-winning Otto Warburg, the Gerson Therapy, Ann Wigmore, and more. (In fact, the Gerson Clinic used to be housed in Oasis of Hope, by Dr. Connealy’s partner Dr. Francisco Contreras.)

Tumors are formed, she said, when the immune system is depressed, through too much exposure to toxic chemicals and heavy metals, toxic foods, viral loads, and stresses. It takes about 8 years for a tumor to form. Cancer cells have been coating themselves with fibrinogen glue and mucous, creating 15 layers of protection.

Her philosophy is to use nutraceuticals to slow down the cancer, then stop it, then turn the body around and bring it back to a healthy state. The ideas below are to shift the pH, shut down the blood supply to the tumor, increase natural killer cell production, detoxify the patient, increase antioxidant levels, increase SOD production, strip the glue layer from the cancer cells and kill them.

pH Balancer: This product uses cesium and rubidium together to shift the pH around the tumor to 7.4, as cancer thrives in an acidic environment. This must be done at the cellular level; it is not enough to increase the pH of the blood.

Pancreatic enzymes: Dr. Connealy notes that Drs. William Kelly (and Nick Gonzales) proved that enzymes must be a major part of any integrative treatment of cancer. The kind I have used for years are not effective for me personally, I learned when Liliana tested me using Zyto technology. (Then I came home and had my friend Laura Jacobs test me again, with the same result.) I am switching brands, based on their testing of frequencies of many different products, relative to my own biochemistry. (Sometimes using the same product for a long time causes your body to react to it less effectively. What’s right for me might not be precise for you.)

Dr. Connealy likes Nutrizyme, taken 1-2 hours before meals. It is enterically coated so it can pass through stomach acid and enter the blood stream to break down the fibrinogen glue layer of a cancer cell. This product also has anti-carcinogen factors attached to aid the immune system in killing the cancer cell.

5,000 to 10,000 IU of Vitamin D: It’s absolutely critical as probably the nutrient most linked to cancer prevention. Hundreds of studies now show that cancer could be slashed in half, or better, if people did not fall below Vitamin D minimum thresholds.

4000 mg of oral Vita C: Even the FDA and National Institutes of Health (NIH) now acknowledge, due to incontrovertible evidence, the power of Vitamin C. It may be the best antiviral agent available—I have gotten rid of hundreds of little bugs in my family by administering this amount of it the minute anyone feels ill. Vitamin C increases the antioxidant level in your body on a cellular level, to stop damage to DNA.

Dr. Connealy manufactures VITALITY C that has a neutral pH so high doses will not upset your stomach. Part of the magic of Vita C is that it is mistaken for a glucose molecule by a cancer cell, which has 43 receptors for glucose, compared to a healthy cell that has only 2. When a cancer cells grabs it up, hydrogen peroxide is produced, which kills the cancer cell.

Essential Detox (Badmaev 269): Dr. C believes this to be the best natural antiviral medication and detoxifier of metals and environmental pollutants. It’s made from botanicals based on traditional Tibetan medicine but was developed by physicians in Russia, Europe, and the U.S.

Noni: Morinda Citrifolia increases natural killer cell production, and Dr. C prescribes Nutriceuticals’ freeze-dried Noni fruit in capsules, which retains enzyme activity and is 30 times more powerful than other Noni liquid or capsule.

Ecomer and V-Statin: Ecomer is used to shut down the blood supply to the tumor, as evidenced by 37 clinical trials, using shark liver oil. In addition to its anti-angiogenesis properties, it also increases white and red blood cell and platelet counts in all human beings, and detoxifies mercury by encapsulating it, carrying it through the kidneys with no damage, and excreting it in the urine.

Stress Release: This is fetal wheat tissue product (no fiber, no gluten, only protein) developed over 50 years by a family of botanists from Michigan. They used it in Chernobyl to detox the radiation damage. It increases SOD (Super Oxide Dismutase) in the body that detoxifies poisons from chemo and radiation, which reduces their side effects. SOD is the intracellular garbage man in the body. Fetal wheat protein increased SOD level in 100% of those tested.

Natura Herbals Anti-Cancer Formulas: Dr. Huang Chuan Gui is Asia’s most respected cancer physician, and his family has made herbal medicines for cancer for over 900 years. His proprietary formulas are specifically for the respiratory, digestive, urinary, ductless glands, blood, lymphatic, motor system, and central nervous system.

Libby Goes Vegan

You know I don’t   promote any “isms”–vegetarianism, veganism, raw foodism.  I’m secretly a fan of all those movements. But I don’t adopt them as extremist positions because I think they send most people running for the hills. And I believe that sticking to the idea of eating MORE PLANT FOODS wins more converts.

But I don’t cook/serve animal flesh in my home. My older daughter, though, is a militant vegetarian.

The younger one, Libby, 14, struggles. She admires her sister’s “cause” orientation, and has “gone veg” several times but it doesn’t stick. She goes to her dad’s where meat is a staple, and she caves in, falls off the wagon. She has been looking at vegetarian vids on youtube and studying the issue.

Today she brought me this typed statement:

“I, Libby Pay, am going vegan. I will not eat anything with eggs or milk. Or meat. So I want to make  special veggie foods for myself since the rest of you drink kefir in the mornings. If I have to drink kefir I will be deeply hurt. Anyways, to make my special food I would like these ingredients. Some of them I have already, but just want to make sure I am allowed to use them. I want to be hardcore vegan. You don’t have to be. But I really want to.”

“Brussels sprouts, spinach, broccoli, asparagus, sweet potatoes, fresh kale (to try this one recipe I found), black beans, that seaweed stuff you buy, big carrots, garlic and onion, green and black olives (not needed, just somewhat wanted!), green beans, cucumbers.”

“I feel very strongly about this. If it gets too hard, I’ll just be vegetarian, but I really want to do this.”

A few hours later, she came in with a binder she’d made, with lots of printed material about cruelty to animals and nutritional support for a plant-based diet, in plastic sleeves. The cover page has this printed, in large text:

“WHY I DO NOT EAT MEAT:

“Yes, God may have put them on the earth for us to eat. But in the scriptures it says to eat meat sparingly in times of winter and famine. I don’t think our Heavenly Father intended for the animals we eat to be tortured, stuffed into tight cages for their whole lives, beaten, and to rarely see sunlight. Chickens, pigs, and cows have been chemically altered to grow way bigger than they are supposed to. They put steroids in the animals to make more meat. These animals can’t walk, and are tortured daily.”

I’m so proud of my kids when they stand for something. When it’s something that will benefit them and the world, even better!

Now if I could just get them to take a vigilante stand against SUGAR.

My Subversive (Garden) Plot

Listen to Roger Doiron’s TedTalk, about how we take control of our food supply and change the world. This video is worth your time:

I’m a huge fan of growing your own food. It can truly change your life. It empowers you. It connects you to your food source. It gets you out in the sun with your hands in the dirt, which gives you the most important hormone/vitamin to prevent cancer, and grounds you to help eliminate the harmful electromagnetic frequencies you build up. It saves you money. It will make you feel happy, I promise.

Step 5 in 12 Steps to Whole Foods is all about how to grow an organic garden, in any amount of space, and use everything you grow. Thank you to Marianne, our new webmaster and a longtime GSG reader, for sharing this video with me.

Oasis of Hope, Tijuana (Contreras Clinic)

Oasis of Hope in Tijuana is inpatient, with all meals served to you. It is very much a hospital—not a medical spa like in Irvine, or a detox retreat like Creative Health Institute or Hippocrates Health Institute. It’s a small hospital, but they have an emergency room, a pharmacy, radiology, the works.

The food is radically different from “normal” hospital food. You can ask them for lots of green juice (I had some from the buffet, see the juices in this photo), and dictate your own nutrition protocol if you want. The meals are 95% vegan (occasionally they serve a little fish or chicken although I never saw any) because their patients want it, and some demand it). Meals are an organic, varied, gluten free buffet—delicious, and although it’s not 100% raw, there is lots of raw plant food.

I was very impressed by the food, actually. It isn’t “detox food” like you’d get at Creative Health Institute or Optimum Health Institute, but you can easily eat raw and vegan there, and it’s all really yummy.

I was told stories of patients who bring in bags of junk food. This would never fly at other places I have been. Oasis of Hope’s philosophy seems to be that while they aren’t going to provide it, they also aren’t going to be the Food Gestapo for their patients either.

But the culture there is very much Latin American. That is, it’s very respectful of you, your wants, your spirit, your individuality. Rosa, the nutritionist, is Dr. Contreras’ daughter and has an American master’s degree. She is happy to teach nutrition to patients one-on-one, but the Latin tendency is clear: that they are not dogmatic or pushy or militant, as some clinics are in the U.S. (I personally respond just fine to nutritional militancy, even appreciate it, LOL! However, some don’t.)

There is a deep focus on spirituality. Dr. Contreras and the other practitioners at his hospital feel that healing is impossible if you do not BELIEVE in the treatment, if your attitude is negative, if you are not an active participant in recovery. His father, Dr. Ernesto, greeted each patient as they arrived, and played his guitar and sang for them when they left. The staff at Oasis Tijuana is very gentle and even kitchen staff hugs the patients every day. They are openly Christian, while inclusive and welcoming to those of other faiths. Attending a daily devotional, and worshiping or meditating in the beautiful chapel, is an important part of treatment.

The latest green smoothie debate, part 3 of 3

That your stomach is full of low calories and high nutrition, after your quart of green smoothie, means you didn’t eat something else. Something worse.

Both are great for different reasons—chewed foods, and blended foods.

I may sound like a broken record. But let me plead with you once again NOT to look at green smoothies as a way to cover up the abominations in your diet the REST of your day. We must take it further. It’s a great first step, but by itself it’s not good enough, especially if caffeine, animal flesh, and candy are still in your other meals.

This issue is a bit of a double-edged sword. With food that we chew, foods aren’t broken down ENOUGH for us to extract all their nutrition. Foods not chewed well cause problems with undigested proteins floating as debris in the blood and causing all kinds of inflammatory problems.

Blended foods break the fiber down. (As I’ve said, that’s not all bad. But it won’t do as well as a “colon sweeper” as a bowl of granola, or a big salad, or a bowl of lentil soup, can accomplish.)

These “experts” telling people not to drink green smoothies are forgetting a number of facts, one of which is critically important. In my lectures, I almost always have someone volunteer, and when they come up, I ask them to eat a big platter of kale, chard, and spinach, representing the amount of greens in the quart of green smoothie, daily, that I recommend. It often takes the volunteer 30 to 45 minutes to eat it. Sometimes they quit in despair, even in front of 200+ people! (Then I let them save face by picking some audience members to come up and help them.)

I ask the audience, how many of you are chewing up this amount of green food, daily? The answer, among approximately 9,000 people this year in my audiences, is somewhere between 0.0% and 0.05%. Keep in mind that while plenty of Standard American Diet folks come to my lectures, many vegans, raw foodists, and general health nuts do, too! Even the salad eaters cannot raise their hand and claim to be chewing up 15 servings of kale, turnip greens, arugula, bananas, and berries.

The forgotten fact is, in ANY form, Americans simply aren’t eating that quantity of good-quality natural plant fiber.

And then there’s the fact that our jaw is degenerated and devolved to a very narrow width and no muscle tone, from three generations of eating soft, processed foods. We can’t break our foods down sufficiently with chewing.   I’m mostly leaving that argument out, since I talk about that so often.

So the main danger, to me, of telling people they shouldn’t drink green smoothies because chewing it is better, is that you’re essentially telling them to stick with same-old same-old. Telling them that if eating huge quantities of “bulk” in salads, bowls of legumes, and granolas is ideal at a 10 (scale of 1 to 10), and achieving a 9.5 with a quart of green smoothie is worthless. It’s an unbalanced statement given the circumstances we are in—and it’s neither wise or responsible.

It’s like attacking Barney (the purple dinosaur) as the root of children’s problems while ignoring pedophiles, soda pop, and the Ritalin epidemic.

Green smoothies aren’t worthless or harmful. They’re a 9.5 on the 1-10 scale. That’s massively better than a Power Bar, a double cheeseburger, a Diet Coke, a Biggie Fries, or a Doritos with a Capri Sun. These are American staples.

Green smoothies aren’t the enemy—junk food is.

The answer, then? EAT BOTH. Chew some good plant food. Take some time and chew it well. And blend some, too, as green smoothies.

If you make my granola and have anything to say here about that challenge of eating it daily for two weeks and reporting on what it does for DIGESTION..do tell!
