“Can you get too much green smoothie?” I did a video answering this question here:

  1. Oh! This has been one of our questions as we’ve transitioned in to GS’s a few months ago! Thank you so much! And my brother and I were just discussing the amounts of GS’s we drink. I’ve so far purchased a Blendtec and 4 of your books and our family of 11 (9 kids thirteen and under) is off to a running start eating raw and LOVING it! =D

Are you familiar with oxalates? I love my green smoothies, but i know spinach and possibly collard greens so far maybe triggering some issues.

Lesley, please read Ch. 1 of 12 Steps to Whole Foods on oxalates, and also search this blog for my several posts on that issue—also under ARTICLES on the site I went into detail about this. There are “anti-nutrients” in virtually every whole food and they are not to be feared, even if there is a very rare reaction in people with certain disorders to some of them. (That doesn’t mean we should throw the baby out with the bathwater.)

When will you be back in Colorado???

    1. Robyn Openshaw says:

Hi Coni, can’t WAIT to come back to CO, hopefully when it warms up if someone there in the Denver area wants to help us line up a couple of locations. Ft. Collins was one we wanted to add to the itinerary this summer, in July maybe??

  4. I completely agree with this video. I drink a quart of green smoothie every morning for breakfast and my mid morning snack, and by the time I get to lunch I barely feel like eating! I get by on a small lunch and a small dinner, eating way less than the Standard American Diet. I have managed to maintain my weight at a healthy level and avoid gaining weight even after transitioning into a sedentary full-time desk job.

Some other ideas for working healthy fats into your green smoothies:

    – instead of using just water, use half water, half coconut milk. Trader Joe’s has a great coconut milk beverage that comes in a box, and is much lighter and more drinkable than the typical canned coconut milk.

    – avocados can also be a good addition to green smoothies, giving it more substance and a creamier texture, making it more filling (but I eat enough avocados at my other “real food” meals that I tend not to bother adding them to my smoothies).

    – you can also add nuts, such as walnuts and pecans, to give the smoothie more texture, protein and healthy fat. And don’t forget nut butters! Peanut butter, almond butter, sunflower seed butter. It can give your green smoothie a nice kick.

  5. Hi Robyn,

I’ve been regularly following your blog but this is the first time that I’m joining in the conversation. I agree with mgm, our health is really dependent on ourselves no matter what the doctors advise us. They are there to give us advise based on what med school taught them. I also agree with Mel that 90% of the time, drugs don’t help, herbal healing is the way to go. Also believe that a sound mind can do a lot of healing as well.

    Regards,
    Ed

Hi Robyn, I want to attend to one of your meetings but I can’t see any schedules in Los Angeles, CA
I also would like to be a coach, but I can’t afford traveling over state since I have being unemployed for couple of years now and financially its hard taking distant trips. I love what you are doing and I am educating myself by readng your book and trying the smoothies. My body feels and I can see the benefits I receive by drinking green smoothies. Thank you. I will keep looking for you in LA.
    Salud…
    Eva
