Making fun of Green Smoothie Moms, for your laugh of the day

Do you watch Kid History? Brett Roberts is a neighbor of ours here in Lindon, Utah, and the Roberts family is such a sensation I heard they’ve moved away to make a real show of what was a just-for-fun YouTube lark. They’ve just made Episode 6 featuring their lovably wackadoo, health-nut mom and GREEN SMOOTHIES. Enjoy it HERE!

My kids constantly quote Kid History and watch the episodes over and over, so maybe you can be cool and introduce your kids to it. Someday, you might find yourself fortunate enough to be the butt of your adult kids’ jokes. Because you brewed nasty cultured stuff in your pantry while their friends’ moms were supplying them an endless supply of stale Red Vines. Because you sell them in a sing-songy voice on the virtues of glasses of green goo you want them to drink.

(Once my six brothers, my sister and I made a movie years ago called “What About BobDad.” It’s our effort to cram as many of my dad’s one-liners and idiosyncracies into 20 minutes as possible. My brother Spencer was a dead ringer for BobDad—complete with baseball hat perched on his head, obsession with Shoe Goo, a one-liner for everything—Academy Award stuff, really.)

If your kids leverage your earthy crunchy ways in a highly public and humiliating way? Just act grumpy, purse your lips, and say, “I’ll be happy to accept a royalty check for the excellent health that enabled you to make those videos!” Pretty sure that’s what my mom would do.

My kids (ages 4, 8, 10) watched that and cracked up saying, “That’s just like you, Mom!!” I don’t know that I’ve ever been so complimented! So now I’ve started singing the arrival of the green smoothies. “Oh, Kiiiddds!”

    Robyn,

My kids and I love Kid History. We quote it all the time. Episode 6 is my favorite so far. My kids were so excited to show it to me. We all laughed hysterically and it only made me more happy and grateful to be doing what I’m doing and to love doing it and knowing that even though my kids gauk and make fun, something is getting through to them. Maybe one day they’ll look at their life and see how much of what I really tried to live and teach them that they’re living too and say “What the freak just happened?”

Thanks for making my life great and my days full of joy and laughter.

Also, are you familiar with the Utah Healing and Wholeness Conference Retreat at Sundance this Oct 14 – 15? My cousin runs it and I’m excited to attend. I noticed she has your Green Smoothie Diet book listed among her resources. It’s a great platform for teaching what you do.

Hey Robyn! Do you know yet when the almond group buy will be yet? I’m wanting to order some things but wondering if I should just wait and get everything together?

    Thanks,

    Jennifer

PS see ya soon in Dallas…cant wait!

Jennifer, we are likely having TWO group buys this year. October will be a bunch of stuff (honey, olive oil, coconut oil, SunWarrior products, sprouted ground flax, etc.) with WHOLE GRAIN PASTAS, and November will be ALMONDS with all the nuts and seeds like we always do.

I have a question. I have been doing green smoothies for a few weeks and my husband has the last week. My husband is noticing extreme acid reflux. I have noticed it a little myself before bedtime but not bad. I assume this has something to do with the alkaline smoothies? Will it eventually subside or is this because of his diet the rest of the day? My husband is not eating that well during the day (subs for lunch, pizza for lunch today) but he thinks it’s eating well. I have been doing better – salads at lunch, healthy nut snacks, and generally healthy dinners – but I have not cut out dairy and meat….YET 🙂 One interesting thing he told me today – he had a few slices of pizza for lunch and went to have a beer and couldn’t even drink it because the beer made him feel that bad (with the reflux) – I was thinking ‘maybe these green smoothies are a good thing’!

Anonymous, see if he will drink his green smoothie with some other healthy food that includes some fats, and maybe don’t drink a whole quart at once, spread it out throughout the day instead of making it a full meal, also add some vegan protein powder (not soy) to the smoothie? Getting hubby off pizza and beer….lol, good luck my friend. 🙂

I have received your newsletters for awhile, but I’m sorry to say I never read much of them. I guess the one I read contained political ideas that I didn’t agree with. So, I dismissed them–sorry! But I have been praying for help and I read your current newsletter and believe it may be my answer. The Lord does move in mysterious ways.

For years we have lived four of your twelve-step ideas, i.e., no stimulants, drink alkaline water, no bad fats (we use coconut oil), and choose whole grains. In addition, we’ve taken supplements, including probiotics and do eat fresh salad and vegetables (though cooked), and I have been drinking a green drink (Garden of Life Perfect Food) every day for several years. But I know that I must do more and it wouldn’t hurt my husband either. I was diagnosed with Lymphoma in January and completed chemotherapy treatment in June. I am in remission now; however, I am dealing with very, very slight neuropathy in the very tips of my fingers and have developed the early stages of lymphedema, for which I have undergone therapy and have to wear compression hose. I need to lose weight, but my body is resisting.

My whole soul is telling me that your 12-step program is the way for me to go to eliminate these side effect problems and to assure that I don’t have a recurrence of the Lymphoma. I have had it plainly pointed out to me that I cannot be “cured” but only put into remission. I want to take every step open to me to safeguard the health I have left. My body is in recovery mode but that isn’t happening very fast and so I still tire very easily.

I live in Ogden and am wondering whether or not you ever teach in your home town or if you have ever put the Ogden area into your schedule?

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and wisdom.

    Warmly,

    Gloria

Hi Gloria, stick around, because I talk about nutrition and health, can only remember mentioning a political view once, about two years ago. I did a class in Layton last month; we will do one in January as well, so come if you can! We will have it posted soon, under Events on GreenSmoothieGirl.com, and we also will post it on the blog. Hope you’re feeling well soon. Eating nurturing, alkaline, whole and raw plant foods is one of the best ways to start addressing those problems related to inflammation. Let us know how you’re doing!

One more thing–I am interested in your group buys. Please let me know when and how to go about getting in on this opportunity.

    Thanks, Gloria

Kid History is so funny! My kids love it and quote it all the time too.

Episode 6 really hit home for me – my kids were gathered around when I watched it and they kept telling me that I was the mom! Although I don’t feed them tofu or tons of vitamins, I am proud to be connected with that Healthy Mom!

Very cute stuff they made up there!

  11. Love me some Kid History–almost as much as I love me some green smoothies! 🙂

We LOVE kid history! SO FUNNY! Now every time I serve dinner I sing, “Here’s you perfectly normal ______” (pasta/soup/whatever we happen to be having). And my husband replies with, “You can’t even taste it!”

  13. Hey Robyn!

Yes! I love Kid History! I actually like to say that to my kids now when I bring them there smoothies, “Oh, girls! I made you a smoooooothieeeee!” All sing-songy. Lol. The difference is, they don’t question why it’s green. In fact that’s my four-year-old favorite color! Today she had hers in a green cup with a green straw. She said it was so cool! My 21-month old even asked for seconds.

Oh, yeah . . . Just a note, I was the girl in the yellow shirt who you interviewed in Sandy last month after your class. I just thought I’d send you the link to my hubby’s website, just in case the card got lost. I feel so silly I didn’t have any of his cards with me.

http://thor-media.net/ Just to remind you, he runs a video production company and has a lot of experience filming live events (just did a Xango one a couple of weeks ago) He’s way technical and can set up LCD screens and mics and all that jazz. Hope it helps!

    Thanks!

Hi Sue! I don’t know about that conference just 10 minutes from my house at one of my favorite “Happy Places” on this planet (Sundance/Provo Canyon). Cool that your cousin is putting that on, hope you have a great experience!

    Robyn,

Here’s the link to the conference. http://utahnaturalhealth.com/ Check it out and let me know what you think. You should come if you can. If not I’ll talk to my cousin and see if we can’t get some of what you teach more involved some time, if you’d like me too. Anyone else is welcome to come too. I’m just excited about getting involved with more people on the bandwagon to a healthier happier life.

Hope you’re enjoying your conference weekend. I’m taking almond joy fudge to share with my family tomorrow. Yeah!!
