I love the Pacific Northwest!

We’re just back from a whirlwind tour speaking in Boise, Kennewick, Portland, and Seattle in just over 48 hours! (Photo is in Kennewick.) Besides a stop along the Oregon coast to buy an armload of the most fabulous blueberries that have ever been in my mouth, we SAW nothing and DID nothing besides teach and drive, teach and drive!

In Portland, I met Michael, who was officially the ONLY person who raised his hand to say he does NOT need any weight loss, energy, or better digestion, because he’s operating at peak performance. He sometimes does bike races where he cycles 150 miles in a day, and he’s a tap dancer.

And he is 70 YEARS OLD.

The audience wanted to know: what are you doing? (When we die, we all want to go out, late in the 9th inning, flipping a light switch, right? Sorry I just mixed my metaphors. We don’t wanna go out on a dimmer switch for 10 to 30 years like so many people around us are doing!)

Michael’s been vegan 25 years. Raw 15 years. Green smoothies 3 years. (OF COURSE!) Sure wish we’d gotten a video with Michael, another example of who I want to be when I grow up, before we tore out the door to Seattle. (The last person who raised her hand for that question was about 2,000 people and 8 classes ago, in Denver: a 65-year old kayaker….she’s a raw foodist, too.)

Occasionally I meet someone like an ex-BF of mine, D., who is hands-down the handsomest man I’ve ever dated. He eats a burger and fries for lunch every day, always chicken or beef for dinner, and drinks 64 oz. of Dr. Pepper every day. (He did read my book and take up the GS habit.) He took Trazadone to sleep and combat anxiety (and still doesn’t sleep), and two “Vitamin P” (his name for Percocet) to get through a tennis match. (And then he could barely walk for two days.) But to look at him? Movie-star good looks. Very fit and toned despite getting very little exercise and terribly painful arthritis.

But D. is an anomaly. A freak of nature. Once I read that Heather Locklear will not eat anything green, hates vegetables. She’s a freak too.

Let’s talk about the rest of us, the 99.9%. We have to take very good care of our organism or it all goes to Hades.

For the most part, when I talk to people in my extensive travels, what you SEE is what you ate. Our fuel becomes us. If we eat lots of raw plant foods, we look alive, positive energies, attractive. If we eat toxic, dead fuel, we look aged, haggard, grey.

Don’t you love K’Lynne’s “after” photo? Meeting people like Michael who are kicking trash at the age of 70, and the 65-year old kayaker lady, make me feel so much mojo for this mission I’m on. Because it shows up in how you LOOK as much as how you FEEL.

  1. I am so sorry I missed this–had to work. I really admire people like Michael–and I’ve always said I want to go face down in my tomatoes at the end of summer, like the Godfather. Seriously. If I should take up kayaking in my sixties, so much the better. 36 right now, and 7 weeks ago, I wanted to die. I was that sick. Now I have the occasional down day, but mostly, I feel–what’s that word? WELL! I think I may have kicked Lupus butt–and I really can’t wait to see what 30 oir fourty years of this will do for me:)

    1. Elena, why did you feel so horrible 7 weeks ago, and what did you do in the meantime? Face-down in your tomatoes like The Godfather—THANK YOU for the laugh of the day! I needed that right before bed! Okay, please let us know if Lupus’s butt is officially kicked. Here’s hoping so….I am so inspired that Michael actually STARTED as a vegan when he was OLDER THAN I AM and look at him now! (We’ve asked him for a photo, but he looks great, like an athlete.) We can start at ANY age with impressive results.

  2. Robyn, I’m not sure how I stumbled on your website, but I thought it’d be good reading. Not only are you good reading, but I love how well your videos are done, and I like how normal you are.

    Today I probably spent about 3 hours going through your videos and other stuff. Kudos to you on your Victoria Boutenko video. Classy.

  3. I’m so glad I had a chance to meet you during the Seattle workshop! Robyn, you are such an inspiration and a phenomenal speaker! I absorbed everything you spoke that night, took notes, and have been telling so many people about you and your green smoothies! I had been a follower of your blog for quite some time but hadn’t fully integrated all the concepts to a daily routine.

    I wouldn’t normally say something like this on a blog (thus why I posted my name as anonymous) but I have been struggling with depression and anxiety for a long time now and am working with someone now (therapist) but I can recall the day you were in Seattle so vividly…..both friends that were going to come with me to your evening workshop had cancelled and I was debating whether I would go alone or not. My depression was at a big time low that day and I was struggling with all the negative thoughts. I had to keep thinking of my young children and how this impacts them. Somehow something in me pulled me to go alone to your workshop.

    I wanted to tell you……I walked in to your workshop that evening feeling like crap. Feeling like I didn’t matter. And I will tell you….I walked out of your workshop with such a skip to my step! I was totally recharged. I was and am ready to take on the 12 steps and get my family on the plan as well! You have no idea how you have inspired me…you’ve given me HOPE and I am SO EXCITED every morning to drink my smoothie. I think it was meant to be to attend your Seattle workshop.

    Thank you for taking the time to go on all these tours and to share your life, your story and your education around raw/plant based eating! I still feel great….a week after your Seattle workshop!

    I met you at the Portland conference, and had you sign my Green Smoothie book after the talk. I know you meet a lot of people and probably don’t remember me, but I was there with my mom and told you about how Costco hooked me up with greensmoothiegirl.com when I purchased my BlendTec blender. You asked me to write my story because you like to hear how people get started down the path to better health, so here goes.

    I am 5’6″ tall and weighed 155 pounds when I came back from our home in Arizona in May 2011. When my husband and I returned to our home in Washington we went to our local Costco to restock the food supply. Before we went to Costco I told my husband that if the Blender road show was there that this was the year I was going to take the plunge and own the BlendTec. Low and behold, the BlendTec guy was there and I became the proud owner of a high speed blender. The demo guy handed me a little piece of paper with three recipes on it and told me to check out GSG, and had the web address on the sheet of paper.

    I came home that day with my blender, spinach and fruit. The first thing I did was check out GSG on the web and my life was transformed from that day forward. I have been making green smoothies a daily habit since May. I’m not a person who treads lightly into new things so I read The China Study and several others since then to show me the road to great health. I’m now 100% vegan, and eat mostly raw plant based foods. I have lost over 23 pounds as of Sept 30th (4 months), and have no desire to eat bad for me foods anymore. My taste buds have been reprogrammed to the beautiful plant foods offered by nature and I now love myself too much to use my body as a garbage can. Once you learn how good real food tastes you can’t go back to the SAD (Standard American Diet) way of dying (it’s certainly not living).

    Robyn, you were my catalyst for change along with my own will for a better life. I am eternally grateful that you are there to spread the message about how we can all benefit from changes in our food. I am now sharing your message with people that ask me what I’ve done to look so great and feel so fabulous. I’m proud to call my self part of the “green team”.

    I recently attended your seminar in Nampa and have jumped into making green smoothies for my family. They love them! I have since froze many bags of peaches, pears, zuchinni, and tomatoes, all raw of course. My question is can I freeze spinach or beets raw? I’ve frozen beets every year but I boil them first to slip the skins. My food guide says that I need to blanch spinach first. Just wondering what you do? Also, have you ever used okra raw? I use it a lot in stir-frys and have always blanched it before freezing as well. Just needing help on how to preserve these items from my garden before it freezes.

    1. Michelle, definitely DON’T use that old-school advice about blanching spinach. Don’t know about using okra raw because I personally don’t like okra excepts in stir-fries like you. I cut the skins off beets and freeze them in chunks RAW. I would avoid boiling vegetables because it kills enzymes. I freeze spinach and beets raw every year. 🙂

    I am terribly disappointed that I wasn’t able to make it out to your seminar in Kennewick. I live in Pasco, just north of Kennewick by a mile, and I have been following your blog for a while. It, along with the video “Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead,” inspired me to do a 60 day juice fast. I decided to do a little bit different of a spin by doing mostly green smoothies, rather that juices.

    This has been amazing for me! I am on day 15 and going strong. The biggest thing for me is that I am a Type 1 diabetic, and I have had it for 17 years. At age 27, I have struggled with my blood sugar control for the longest time (it’s all those dang greasy foods that mess me over!), but finally it is under control! My average blood sugar before starting this was 205, which definitely isn’t good, especially an average! For the last 14 days my average blood sugar has been 142! Phenomenal! I have never felt better nor had better control of my diabetes! My insulin intake has decreased overall by 65% and my energy levels are through the roof! And to top it all off, I have already lost 13 pounds, with at least 20 more on their way!

    These are great benefits that I really need and want in my life, as I am a father of 3 beautiful children and a wonderful wife that need me for a very long time. Thank you so much for your motivation that you bring to me through your posts! I have seen stories of others on your blog and I would love to have my story featured sometime, if you are interested.
