K’Lynne Loses 100 Pounds Eating Whole Foods!

K'Lynne before whole foodsK'Lynne after whole foodsK’Lynne Wagner has lost 100 POUNDS doing my 12 Steps to Whole Foods program for over a year. Check out her amazing photos! She came onto my radar when she had so many people flocking to her, wanting to know what she’d done, that she negotiated a dealer discount on 12 Steps kits with us, and started having GSG meetings at her home every month.

She stood up and told her story in Portland, and the audience gasped at the number 100! They demanded info, so I interviewed her:

GSG:   Did you count calories?

K’Lynne: No.

GSG:   Did you feel deprived?alt=

K’Lynne: No.

GSG:   Did you eat yummy food?

K’Lynne: Yes.

On her blog, she calls herself “a woman of few words except if it’s about something I’m passionate about.” In answer to audience questions, she told us that she had lost weight with diets before, but this time she obtained health in addition to weight loss, as well as a way of life that makes sense—and the weight came off, and stayed off, as a byproduct of learning healthy habits.

Though she is shy and quiet (see her blog about gathering the courage to talk to me in Portland), she had a carload of friends with her who left at 5:45 a.m. for the 4.5-hour drive from Ashland. The whole audience was absolutely inspired. Until she got their shocked and delighted reaction, she told me later, “It had not really occurred to me what losing 100 lbs. meant. I just knew how wonderful it was to look in the mirror and see ‘me’ and know that I was on the right path that would allow me to stay this way forever.” K’Lynne told me she does ALL of the 12 Steps. Her blog says, “I grind my own flour with all kinds of grains I never knew existed…I love it, I can’t get enough of it, it is so exciting to me and I feel very empowered with all this knowledge.” Her husband Chuck is getting into good nutrition, too.

She emailed me later that she takes salads and dressings for lunch to work, and her whole office now brings salads. At church, people say to her, “I’m getting my blender this week!” A good friend who had breast cancer called K’Lynne one day because she was frustrated that her doctors said, “Just watch for changes,” rather than giving her meaningful prevention strategy. K’Lynne’s friend said, “Whatever you’re doing, I want to know more.” This friend is now healthy, following 12 Steps, and ecstatically sharing it with others, too.

K’Lynne said to me, “I love sharing because I am so passionate about eating healthy and it all just makes so much sense. I feel like I’ve been asleep and now I am awake, full of life, and look forward to a long, happy, healthy life!”

I’m thankful to her for sharing her story, her photos, and her spirit with us. She is a beautiful woman inside and out who doesn’t keep her growth and knowledge to herself! Check out her blog HERE. She’ll give you a great deal on the 12 Steps course she won in the raffle, and if you’re in Ashland, you can join her 12 Steppers’ group!

  1. Sadly her before picture looks a lot like mine. I am losing inches but not the weight. I sometimes wonder how that is even possible. My pants fall off of me (literally I can take them off with unbuttoning or unzipping) but I haven’t moved a pound. Gotta shake things up soon – throw in some rejuvelac, water kefir, and keep going with the 12 steps. I have faith that this way of life will bring about the weight loss that I need. I am happy for her 100 pounds! It is good to see the after picture. What a difference.

Melissa, I hope you can go get a full blood-panel workup at a bioidentical hormone replacement clinic. That does seem very strange. Many if not MOST women have significant hormone imbalances, in the modern age—diet is 2/3 of the battle but rectifying hormone issues is the other 1/3. Okay, can I add a fourth third? That would be eliminating toxic stuff from the environment as much as possible.

I just started drinking green smoothies because of your excellent website! But I have a question – I went to Costco and bought a giant bag of fresh spinach, but the expiration date was really soon 🙁 When I got home, I washed the bag and started blending. I ended up making a 4 small-medium sized tupperwares full of spinach and water blended together at a good concentration (a beautiful deep emerald green color). I froze three of them and kept the fourth in my fridge to use until I need another. Is this ok? I wasn’t sure if pre-blending the spinach would make it useless or because its going to get blended with water anyway it would be ok? Thank you for your help!

    1. Robyn Openshaw says:

Rebekah, that is okay! Don’t let food go to waste. 🙂 It’s not useless—slightly oxidized, but still much better than ANYTHING else you were going to eat the day you thaw it for your green smoothie. Next time you might freeze the spinach instead, by itself in baggies, OR freeze the blended greens in ice cube trays so you can use it as “ice” with water and fruit for a quick green smoothie later than doesn’t even have to be thawed.

  3. Melissa, If you are smaller but the same weight, have you by any chance gained muscle? One pound of muscle is smaller than one pound of fat. Good luck getting it sorted out!

So can just eating right and avoiding toxins correct hormone imbalances over time?

    1. Robyn Openshaw says:

Sarah, sometimes not completely, and often not completely. Sometimes supplementation (for instance, with iodine) and bioidentical hormone replacement is necessary to slow aging and maintain quality of life.

So even if I’ve lost 20 pounds since starting twelve steps in march (and 20 before that when I cut out all animal products) and I’m about 10 pounds away from the ideal weight for my height posted on your site. Does that mean I most likely don’t have significant hormone issues or are there other indications of hormone issues? How much does it cost to have a full blood-panel work up? I would like to have it done, but I don’t want to pay for it if it’s not a big issue and can correct itself as I nourish my body well!

    1. Robyn Openshaw says:

Sarah, if you’re under 40 and not having dry skin, mood disorders (anxiety or depression), night sweats, low energy, hair loss, sexual dysfunction (like loss of libido), or other symptoms of hormone imbalances, don’t worry about it, and just keep doing what you’re doing! And CONGRATS on your weight loss! The weight posted on my site is a TRUE ideal—if you’re 10 lbs. from the “ideal” posted here on GSG, you’re doing well and I’m impressed…..40 lbs. weight loss is an accomplishment!!!

    Hi Robyn,

I am a 70 yr old guy who always has been healthy but overweight. In July I was 234 and I am only 5’8″ and started a green smoothie diet after watching Fat,Sick, and Nearly Dead. Even though it was a juicing fast I decided to go the smoothie rout after seeing a Blendtec roadshow. I don’t like being hungary and was afraid I would always be hungry on a juicing fast. So far I have lost 30 lbs, but a couple weeks after I started I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. My energy level has dropped a bit lately but I am committed to staying on this regimin and am following the budwig program as well. I also go to the gym 4 – 5 days a week and try to mix up my training with weigts

one day and cardio the next. If you have any ideas how I can increase my energy level I would appreciate it.

    Thanks,

    Art Bliss

    1. Robyn Openshaw says:

Art, add some Rejuvelac to your regimen and let me know? See my blog and video last week. Good luck to you, let me know how the Budwig program goes for you—I am going there next year!

I enjoyed meeting you in Boise. Your class was inspiring for me. You probably don’t remember everybody you meet but you signed my book. I’m the one that asked if I could touch your shoulder. Anyway, I am interested in learning more about your non-toxic cancer treatment. I have a tumor in the chest wall that the doctors want to cut out and I believe there is a better way. I’ve been living the raw food life completely for a couple of months now. Before that I was probably 60 % raw. I’d appriciate any insight you might have. LOL Jerine

    1. Robyn Openshaw says:

Jerine, so glad you came to Boise! For starters, read Suzanne Somers’ book Knockout, and also check out burtongoldberg.com. Let me know how you’re doing!!

Bummer. I have had problems with dry skin but that has greatly improved with healthy oils in my diet now. I had depression and anxiety from about 13 till recently when my diet changes seriously changed that. I do have low energy, but I always blame it on kids waking me up and going to bed late, though I still get at least 7 hours every night. I don’t think my libido has ever been normal but that has seriously improved with green smoothies. My hair loss and night sweating has improved significantly as well, but still I’ve dealt with all these things. Sounds like I would benefit from having a blood panel done. What does that cost and where do you go in Utah county?

Oh, and I’m 28 years old.

Another thought about my weight loss. I’ve lost it without much exercise as I have never in my life enjoyed exercise so I’ve never made a habit of it. Now when I work out, I am seriously amazed at what .my body can do. And it makes me feel awesome instead of totally drained. Oh, and the muscle tone I have now is amazing without exercise, although I lift my kids all day long! But seriously, my arms and legs look better than my husbands. He is totally jealous! 🙂 And my kids have had no seasonal allergies this season and their food sensitivities have seriously improved. Even my husband who still eats out at lunch and eats sugar has lost 15 pounds drinking green smoothies and eating what I make for dinner. It is so amazing what food can do to the body! We have benefited so much from 12 Steps, I just can’t remember all the things right now!

I’am K’lynnes husband. K’lynne told me all about her trip to Portland to meet you in person and she glows when she descripes of the whole experience. This morning she showed me your blog and she let me read it. I must say that you did an excellent job in recognizing her and her efforts. I read it again and again and I will tell you that it brings a tear of gratitude, and I feel very blessed and fortunate to have her in my life. I Thank you for your program and for the huge changes it has brought in her life.

    Robyn,
Thanks for the write-up. You got everything correct except my first name. And I neglected to mention that I eliminated all dairy and chicken embryos from my diet as well, back in the early 1990’s.
Thank you also for talking to me after the session. I appreciate all that you do and I did learn something new about the generational effect to our pallets.

As for distilled water, I switched to it from my well water in 1988 which, I then determined, that the inorganic minerals in the well water are unassimilable for the human body. Those minerals are not eliminated naturally and can only be washed out with distilled water.

I hope you can support my belief in it since I have over 23 years of 99% consumption of it and the physical check-ups show no deficiencies what so ever.
One thing more; I have not used any medications of any kind. (not even aspirin)

    Yours in health,
    Michael

    1. Robyn Openshaw says:

Michael!! The blog today talks about you in detail! So sorry I did that—Kristin is going to laugh, because I just told her last week that I have, for 30 years, gotten all Michaels and Stevens mixed up. I will triumph over this learning disability. I used to get all Kathys and Debbies mixed up, and I’ve overcome that one. I will go edit! Thanks for being an inspiration!!

PS; You identified me as Steven in the Portland GSG Saturday 9/24/11 session.

@Sarah, I’m 34 years old and I realized after going to a workshop on hormone health last year that I might have a hormone imbalance because I had many of the symptoms of “estrogen dominance.” In fact I’d had many of them my whole life. One of those is not being able to lose weight even though I was eating healthy and exercising. Afterwards, I became a patient of the doctor who taught the class and did a 24 hour urine analysis and sure enough my progesterone was low, like super low. If the normal is 1450, mine was 112. She suggested supplementing with progesterone. After 6 weeks of being on the progesterone I was able to lose weight. It seriously just came off. Now I tell everyone about her not only because of the weight loss but because of the increase in energy. I also learned from her hormone workshop that imbalanced hormones leads to an increase in cancer. I seriously don’t want that so keeping my hormones balanced is a priority for me! I love telling everyone who will listen about how easy and safe it is. The doctor I see is in Idaho and her name is Melinda Hughes. She gave a free hormone workshop before Robyn’s class in Boise last week. I know she takes out-of-state patients so if you want to contact her you could schedule a phone consult and she could mail you the test and go over your results with you and write you a Rx for whatever you bioidentical hormone replacement that you need. Her website is http://www.integratedmedicalarts.com. Hope that helps!!

This is so encouraging. I just started last Friday with the green smoothies and am looking forward to good health and weight loss. Already, I see a difference. My knees were a constant reminder of the weight I carry, always aching and painful. Getting up, I looked like a little old lady and until my joints loosened up, I walked like one, too. Today is the seventh day of 1 quart of green smoothies per day and my knees are almost pain free. I can get up without pain and I can walk much better. Thanks to Mom for turning me onto this site and thanks, Robyn for your passion to share.
