“Dear GreenSmoothieGirl” for Arizona, part 1 of 4

One of my favorite things about traveling to a new city on my speaking tour is meeting names I’ve been seeing since GSG was a brand new site. And meeting volunteers who come help us at the classes. Jenny and Tosh Black. Tawnya and Chad Hood. Jeannie Kirkpatrick. Shanna Anderson. Thank you all for coming, and for half a dozen of you who brought 15+ friends to Mesa….you “get” my vision of spreading this message far and wide, so that we turn the tide of the health disaster currently ruling in America. And I love you.

I’m going to answer questions submitted to us via email, the next few days:

Dayna: Do you use fluoride toothpaste or commercial sunscreens?

GSG: No fluoride toothpaste. It’s a toxic petroleum byproduct that should have never been in our water supply, let alone in toothpaste or supplements. In the store, we have a few cases of this awesome deal that I got that we provided through the group buy. I put a case in my food storage. Especially for little kids who swallow their toothpaste, please use a natural kind.

Sunscreen can be chemical or physical. I don’t use the chemical kind. I’d rather get a sunburn! It’s full of toxic chemicals. The physical kind uses nano zinc oxide that literally blocks the sun. When you rub it in, at first it makes your skin very white (or you can get the tinted kind here). A few minutes later, your skin will look normal though. We have a little in our store but are not getting any more.

Cheryl: do you know any healthy whole-food bars?

GSG: On my blog, I posted this one from Michelle Jorgenson. There’s also a Manna Bar in Ch. 7 of 12 Steps to Whole Foods. At Costco, the Trio Bar is pretty good, and most Lara Bars at your health-food store are good. (But she’s started putting some sugar in a few of her bars, so read labels—the Cherry Pie one is my favorite, with all-raw ingredients).

Please don’t buy “protein” bars made from soy (refined, adding to the excess bad-estrogen problem in our food suppy), or whey (highly refined animal product).

Read what Dr. Michelle Jorgenson has to say here.

Amy: I want alkaline water—but it has to be simple, affordable, and convenient.

GSG: I agree. I am not a fan of putting baking soda or sodium chlorite drops in your water, though. I tried that years ago and noticed no health benefits, plus it dirties your water and those additives make me uncomfortable. We have a group buy going on all the time now, with so many people interested, so we can get wholesale prices on ionizers. Having it installed under your own sink is the only way to do it, because alkaline water you get from your friends’ machine or at the health food store loses its alkaline pH within 8 hours, according to my testing.

Look under Robyn Recommends on GreenSmoothieGirl.com. This is an FAQ about the ionizer we arrange wholesale pricing for you:

Water Ionizer

  1. Hey people

Water ionizers are great, I’ve been using a cheap alternative however. In holland its brought for sale under the name Brita. When i got enough money however im planning to install a system for all the watersupply in my house. The water tastes better and the ionizer filters out a lot of heavy metals. It’s totally worth it.

    Greats,
    David

  2. Hello Robyn,
We attended the Mesa class and could only hear parts and pieces of your experiences because of a bad sound system. This was very sad for us, and some of our group left early as it was too hard to hear. We really hope you come again, but to a place where the sound system works better for you.
A question for you regarding sprouts- – -it sounded like they were highest on your list of good things to eat, so- – – if you soak flax seeds overnight to add to your green smoothies, have they become sprouts? What about soaking quinoa, lentils or beans overnight- – -does that make them sprouts? Or just soggy seeds?
Thanks for the good work you are doing in encouraging healthy eating habits. Hope you make it back to our area soon.

  3. LD, that was the worst feng shui I’ve ever had in a speaking event, and I’m so sorry. I could feel the frustration of those on the far left of the room. As you know, both my sound system, and the rec center’s, were very faulty and I had to stand rooted in place to be heard at all. Move my head six inches, and the sound cut out!

Anyway, if you soak those seeds, all of them you mentioned, overnight, they do germinate. They do not have to grow tails to be “sprouted.” You can continue to grow them until their tails are 1/4″ long if you want, or longer so that they “green” (all of this in Ch. 7 of 12 Steps to Whole Foods). Or with pumpkin seeds, raw almonds, etc., you can dehydrate them so they are still living, but also dry/crunchy. 🙂 Sorry again–I will get a better place next time. (Wish you’d been at Glendale, where the environment was so awesome.)

  4. I have tried natural toothpaste, but I have sensitive teeth. I needed to switch back (to a gluten-free brand of Aquafresh Sensitive) before I finished the tube. Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

  5. Hey Robyn,

I have been drinking green smoothie’s and eating healthy now for one year. I have lost 75 lbs and no longer need high blood pressure medicine. I feel so much better and love my new healthy way. A lot of people have taken notice and have asked me what I am doing, of course I tell them about green smoothies and I am so passionate about it that they want to know more. This Friday I am having about 15 people over so I can share more with them.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us, it has changed my life for the better and because I am now educated I will never go back to eating processed foods. I was hoping that one day you would consider coming to Medford Oregon and doing one of your classes. There are a lot of health conscious people here in the valley that would love to c learn and to meet you. Hope to see you soon.

  6. Hi Robyn
Thanks for coming to Mesa! I was lucky enough to be sitting on the “right” side and could hear perfectly….Also I was a lucky raffle winner and won a bag of vanilla protein powder! So worth buying a raffle ticket! 🙂 Thanks again for your encouraging words!

  7. I live in an apartment and would like to invest in the RO/ionizing system. Will it permanently affect our rental (faucet, etc.)? Can it be easily transported to a new location when we buy a house someday?

Thanks for your help and all you do us, Robyn! You are an inspiration.
    Mindy

  8. I’m not so confident in flax seeds as they have a negative estrogenic effect
Have you tried chia seeds….they do not have to be refrigerated

  9. Aw, sweet of you to mention us, Robyn! We had fun & loved meeting you! I am still learning how to navigate around your blog (Is there an easy way to check an earlier blog or later blog, in date order? Is there an easy way, like turning the pages of a book?) I am wondering about chia seeds vs flax seeds vs fish oil – which one(s) are better & why?

    1. Jenny, you can read about my opinion on fish oil in ch. 4 of 12 Steps to Whole Foods–I’ve also blogged about it here (the blog is searchable). We don’t have that page-turning option. I’ll ask my webmaster if he can do that; we’re about to launch a new look-n-feel (skin) for the site. The blog will be redone after that.

  10. Oh… P.S! What’s the correct way to get the most out of your flax seed… do you just soak it for 4-6 hrs.? Mine’s never sprouted, but just gets gooey around the seeds… ? And do you have to soak in the fridge? THANK YOU!!

  11. 2 questions.
I am enjoying a new grandson and am unable to join the Thursday Lunch group North of IF this week. Id like to have my email shared with them for their write ups.
How can I find Robyns list of Costco’s shopping?

    1. Su, I don’t remember writing a Costco list, but on YouTube I have a video about what I buy at Costco–it’s a couple of years old, though. Check in on the Idaho Falls group on facebook? I think my staff linked to it on the GreenSmoothieGirl fanpage there.

  12. Hey Robyn , i signed up for you webinar on ionized water , I currently filter my water to remove the chemicals but I;m interested in alkaline water . I have a history of kidney stones ,renal cell carcinoma , bladder cancer . I know that cancer can’t live in an alkaline environment , I do lemon water in the morning and I drink Bragg apple cider vinegar be fore bed . I just don’t think it’s enough so when i ran across your site and listened to you I wanted to know more . Looking forward to getting my body back where it;s supposed to be . Thanks for all you do !
