Introducing Karen Wilbert, GreenSmoothieGirl Makeover [part 3 of 4]

When I watched Karen Wilbert, I turned to Kels and said, “She really touches me. I want to work with her.” I was deeply moved by Karen’s story of six family members undergoing gastric bypass, including both parents and 4 siblings! Two of them have had the procedure twice!

When she came to my home to interview, she walked with a cane. But this is a big improvement since she was once on a feeding tube for a year! She lost 60 lbs. because of malnutrition.

Karen’s health challenges are daunting. Multiple sclerosis is not a quick or easy thing to turn around, like cardiovascular disease, anxiety, and overweight can be. Fatigue and depression mean that we have to fight through early, serious roadblocks to get to the good stuff–the dividends of lifestyle change.

I told her, “We can’t and don’t promise any specific ‘cures’ of health problems.” But Karen is BRAND NEW to the GSG lifestyle and I’m excited to see what happens, because there’s nowhere to go but up, when you’ve hit rock bottom. I was looking for people whose spouses are not highly resistant (uneducated, or mild resistance, yes–all-out opposition, no). Karen’s husband will support this.

I told her, “I’m thrilled to be part of your journey, and I want to educate and help you. My one concern is this: Will you get out of bed and do this?

With many tears, she stated her commitment. Please give her your encouragement in response to this blog entry! Tell her your own experience and give her some love!

I think Karen is ready to live. She is more than 2 years younger than I am–41 years old, far too young to be the “living dead.” Please view her video here.

  1. Hi Karen – Your old friend from Austin, Tx. cheering you on. I need to do this too. I keep falling off the wagon, but do love my greensmoothies….if only I didn’t love everything else on the side. I have wasted lots of time trying to do this…it is hard, hard, hard to change those old habits…..I dream of hamburgers and fries, cake and ice cream. I seem to be able to go for 3 or 4 days and then bingo, something comes up and I fall off the wagon…soo you can be my new mentor!!! I look forward to seeing how well you do. I know oyou can be successful.

Here’s toasting you w/ a green smoothie all the way to success.

    Love, Nancy

Karen, you and your sweet family are worth every single minute that it takes to learn and implement a healthy lifestyle. You can never know how this will change the lives of your children, and their children, and so on…

You are giving them the best gift possible, the gift of a healthy life. I wish you many years of health and happiness!!!

Go for it Karen. You can do it. Forgive yourself for the lost time and be grateful you have more NEW time to heal and be well. Rememeber to eat naturally. If it comes in a box, bag, or some kind of package pass it up. You will learn to cook grains and other stuff from scratch. I am a nutritonal coach.

Hi Karen – you are well spoken – I wish you the best. Yes-our future(s) can be better – if you have a Bible there is a passage concerning return on “things the locusts have eaten”

You seem comitted – taste bud re-acclimating can take a little time, enjoy the process and the journey – slow is good with some things. My tastebuds never crave things like – potato chips and cheese doodly-doos…..junk like that– If I have a craving it’s (now and has been for quite sometime) for things that are healthy for me– made by —God. 🙂 All the Best – Forward!!!

You are beautiful, Karen and very well spoken. I can feel your pain, but also your positive attitude about getting well….. I am sure we will be reading about your recovery and growing energy to get back into life and live it to the fullest…

I am in a similar situation as you with a Lyme Disease diagnosis…. take two naps a day and sleep a lot at night too. Bad knees also and some brain fog…..but I am also beginning a journey similar to yours….

We can cheer each other on!!!

Karen, My husband, 37 years old, also has MS. He was in a wheelchair 3 years ago, but is walking once again due to some new MS medicine. Recently, he has started drinking green smoothies, eating more raw foods, tons of fruits and veggies, and is trying to stay away from animal protein (other than yogurt). It has made a difference in his walking, digestion, and fatigue. I know this will help you and I will be praying for you all the way along. You can do it, Girl!!!!! We’ll be doing it with you!

Well, first of all, Karen – my, what big eyes you have 🙂 !! They are beautiful, and so are you, and as you go through this process you are going to see a new person looking out of those eyes, and you are going to like her very much! I’ve been doing mostly raw/green smoothies for awhile and, though there have been small backward steps here and there, the overall direction has been full steam ahead, so don’t be discouraged if you hit bumps in the road – there is so much to discover and incorporate, enjoy the journey and process. We are all behind you 100%!!

Karen, you rock! You are beautiful and powerful beyond measure. Green smoothies and a whole foods lifestyle will change your life, it did for me! I hear you when you talk about fatigue…I couldn’t get through one day without a two hour nap…now I bounce out of bed at 7am and fall right to sleep at night…no more naps during the day! You can do this and you can change your life! Love, blessings, peace, and joy, Lisa
