One more thing, I don’t know if I’m getting carried away but I wanted to mention that Lily eats a full-plate size salad everyday! And she jumps up and down and demands to sit on my lap and eat my salad when she sees me eating one. This is no exaggeration, I promise! But I really contribute this to Green Smoothie Girl because I have been feeding her Green Smoothies and was hooked into Robyn basically since I started feeding her solids.

I don’t know if you want to add that to my testimonial on Lils or not. It doesn’t matter. But it is amazing to me that she wants a salad over anything else and wants it everyday!

  1. Robyn asked me quite a while a go to post on her blog about my experiences in whole foods. I could never figure out how to post so I’m hoping this will work. Her question to me was: “It would be so interesting to my readers to hear your three-generational experience with what happens to your health, when you eat whole and living plant foods. What have you learned in your journey?

    First off I have to say that I took Robyn’s most recent quiz and scored a D so even though I thought I was doing fairly well I still have a long way to go.

    In regard to three-generational my health teachings began with my Grandmother. She was diagnosed with oral cancer and overcame it by changing her diet after she went down to Mexico for treatment. I’m not quite sure exactly what her changes were but I know she used to eat a lot of white sugar (actually she still would sneak it because we found twizzlers around her apartment after she died) but I always remember eating healthier food with her and I remember her telling me many times that if it weren’t for the changes she made she would have died.

    I was born with asthma and my Mom took me to regular doctors and had me on antibiotics most of my younger years. I remember being sick a lot in the winter and the sickness would trigger asthma attacks. When I was about 7-8 my grandmother took me to a doctor who would try to prevent asthma attacks rather than treat them when they happened. I followed his treatments which included some drugs and shots of gammaglobulin every 3 months or so to boost my white blood cells and immune system. I improved somewhat. When I turned 18 my Grandmother then took me to a nutritionist she had found. I think she waited until I was that age so my Mom wouldn’t disapprove, not that I think she would. I got on vitamins and other supplements and improved greatly.

    When my husband and I married I somewhat got away from eating healthier like I had earlier thinking it was more expensive. It was my husband who ended up having health problems about 7 years into our marriage. He went to urgent care with some terrible pains in his intestines and they did all kinds of tests only to tell him they couldn’t find anything wrong. He knew the pains were really there and something was causing them. He started looking into diet change then and we became vegetarian for a time. Then 14 years ago we found an iridologist who helped me completely overcome my asthma by change in diet–no refined flours, sugars, eating more raw, along with herbs and homeopathics. Our health has been improving ever since. About 2 years ago somehow I got back in contact with Robyn and looked at what she was doing (we had met about the time we found the iridologist) plus her husband and my husband and I all served in the same mission for our church. My biggest challenge was eating enough greens and raw. Green smoothies were my answer! Also I learned how to make sourdough bread which has been a real blessing. I have 8 children, soon to be 9 in 6 weeks. When my husband and I were first married we wondered if we would ever have any children but nutrition also helped in that way. We contacted my nutritionist at the time who put me on a program and within 2 months I was pregnant. Actually it seems that each time I have done something to improve my health I found I was expecting again.

    My 2 year old has had green smoothies since before he was born and loves them. We always provide the best food we can at home for our children. Some are better than others in eating how they should. Not surprisingly the ones who eat the worst are the ones who get sick the most. We are happy when we see our children making good choices in what they eat. When they choose to eat things that aren’t that good we remind them of the consequences of doing so. We don’t force them but try to encourage when they make a good choice.
