Our new video, sign up for our class at the Zermatt

Here’s a teaser video for the holiday class Desiree and I are teaching at the five-star Zermatt Resort (Midway, Utah) on Dec. 9. It’s going to be a blast, and I invited superstar local author and plant-food-lover RAW MELISSA to teach with us! We’ve been kickin’ ideas around and all three of us are excited.

    I just have to add my thanks to those of so many others.

    This week my husband, myself, and our three kids went to Disneyland, along with my entire extended family.

    Before leaving, my husband and I were feeling stressed about not being able to have our daily green smoothies while in California. We considered bringing our blender with us, which we almost did. But we didn’t want to have to go grocery shopping and deal with all the mess. So instead, we packed (in ice of course) 6 quarts of green smoothies and took them with us!!

    Each morning at the continental breakfast we would meet up with my extended family. Most mornings we drank our smoothies in the hotel room (not wanting to make it a big deal), but on the last morning, we were running late and we brought our drinks in with us. Everyone thought we were crazy. My dad said it best “The Hunter family drinks salads for breakfast”. 🙂

    Anyway, the whole way home, my husband and I were talking about how much we LOVE our smoothies and how nice it was to go on vacation and still feel good. Your smoothies are life changing and I am so thankful for your knowledge and efforts in sharing it with my family.

    I am going to Costco first thing in the morning to load up on more spinach… can’t live without that big bag!

    ps- if you have any other ideas for healthy traveling, I’d love to know!

  2. Hi Robyn, I have a question for you. I am wanting to make green smoothies for my family. and obviously make more healthy treats and get away from other yucky sweets. My question is, the only blender I have is the one that attaches to my Bosch mixer. Right now, financially, I can not get a blend tec or vitamix blender….i’m HOPING with our tax return I will be able to get one….but until then, is there anything I can do with the blender I have now?

  3. Anissa,

    I used that blender for quite a while to make green smoothies. It makes them perfectly, as long as you don’t put stems in (like from kale, collards, chard). I would also not put in things like lemon rinds, etc. But for the leafy parts of greens and fruits, it should work fantastically!

  4. Hi Robyn and Desiree,

    My son is allergic to peanuts and treenuts and so many of the wholefood/vegetarian recipes call for them. Can you recommend any substitutions for this or point me in the direction of someone who doesn’t rely on nuts in their recipes.

    I love the message you’re getting out though and we regularly do green smoothies!

    Have you heard of Tony Robbin’s Living Health Audio’s? Right down your alley. WHOLE FOODS EATING! GREEN VEGGIE’S! Imagine that. He mention’s Dr. Young out of California – who claim’s he can cure Diabetes (including Type One). My son has Type One and I myself have suffered with health conditions. I have learned so much about health and nutrition. Amazing stuff! I am so excited to be an advocate!

    1. Botche, yep–I’m a Tony Robbins fan. Wrote last week about my T.R. gratitude CD. He’s doing good work promoting ALKALINE eating–so we’re on the same team!

  6. Koni, Which green smoothie recipe did you take with you? Mine don’t taste that great after being around for a day, even refrigerated.

    Agave is always the replacement for sugar as being better? I really question the health benefits of any alternative sugars as being better?

    1. Cherie, all concentrated sweeteners should be used in moderation. I don’t use them much. On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being HFCS and 10 being fruit/dates, I’d rate these sweeteners:

      Sucanat 4
      coconut sugar 5
      raw/organic agave 5
      raw honey 5 (different pluses and minuses)
      stevia 7
