Come early tonight! And, a time-saving tip.
Thanks for your patience if you came to my Riverdale show last night. Especially those 65 of you who sat in the aisles on milk crates or stood along all the walls when all the seats were full. And thanks for being patient with fussy babies—you know I WANT THOSE YOUNG MOMS THERE, and you know why! (The moms of the two fussy babies in our audience in Provo eventually sat down and put the babies under their shirts. I’m a big fan of a mom being able to do that anywhere she wants–including in my class! Love it when young mamas do right by their babies. Go you!)
Anyway, you were patient & accommodating, and thank you for coming to my class to learn about living a green life.
If you’re coming to my gig in SANDY tonight, we have the most RSVP’s of this whole week, so come early if you want an actual chair.
I will post photos of all 4 events this weekend, so look for yourself! The photography is amateur (I just hand my camera to someone willing to take a few photos), so forgive that please.
Here’s something I’ve been doing that makes me happy because it’s so efficient:
When I wake up in the morning, I get a quart jar. I fill it half-full of alkaline water. I stir in a spoonful of Ormus Greens and add a teaspoon of sole. (See Ch. 10 of 12 Steps about sole.) (I also add 3 drops of Lugol’s solution, which is iodine, which I get from my hormone clinic’s pharmacy, which is a thing I personally need. Most people do, in fact. If you write about it, we’ll just have to tell you, “Get tested by your bio-identical hormone clinic.”)
Anyway. So I drink that first thing in the morning. 30 to 60 minutes later, into that SAME quart jar, I pour my Hot Pink smoothie (see Ch. 10), 400 calories and just amazing nutrition, right out of the blender. And I drink it on the way to drop my high schooler off and go to the gym.
A couple of hours later, I’m home, and I bring that quart jar inside. I make a blenderful of green smoothies, and pour mine into that SAME quart for its third use of the day. I put a lid on it and put it in the fridge.
I’ve been serving my kids their kefir-blended-with-banana for breakfast in a pint jar, and then re-filling them with green smoothies, which I then cap and put in the fridge.
This has been my routine lately. I change my routine sometimes based on my family’s needs, but that’s been working really well and keeping dish-cleaning to a minimum.
(Oh, and I have a few bottle washers on hand because we use them so much. The little bristly thing, not the people.)
Are you still taking your salts in the morning? I just found them at Mother’s Market and planned to find the area on your site that you discussed that. Thanks
Christa, yes I do! (In this blog entry, I write about adding a tsp. of sole in my water in the morning.)
Good to hear from you!
You know Robyn I have been wanting and nice quart green smoothie jar with a handle and nice lid that holds a straw. And after reading this post it got me thinking. You ought to sell quart and pint jars like that with the mug type handles with nice lids of some sort and glass straws. You could have your logo and/or name put on them and maybe even have an option to have it personalized with your name on it.
I don’t know I would buy one I’m like you and carry my jar around all the time using it for more then one thing! I just sometimes wish they were more convient with the handle and a nice straw etc. Just thought I’d share might be a fun thing to have in your store! Thanks again for all you do!
What is the kefir and banana drink that you make for your children in the morning? Is that their breakfast or do you serve the drink accompanied by other things?
Thanks for your continued efforts to educate and befriend.
They always have kefir/banana shake in the morning–if they aren’t running behind and are hungry, they’ll eat something like homemade granola, too.
Robyn – I’m just wondering if you continue to keep your kid’s portions to a pint because that is what you feel you can reasonably expect from them, or if that’s what you think is adequate to meet their nutritional needs, or if you have another reason. I understand that quantity for little kids, but I am curious about if/when you switch them to quarts of green smoothies, since yours are almost all “adult size” (I realize that’s akward phrasing, but “grown up” didn’t seem to fit either).
Thanks!
Lily,
They could certainly drink more than a pint! That’s just what I can pull off, without having to make a second batch. (A very full blender jar makes a quart for me, a pint for each of my four children.)
Not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but about the Hot Pink Breakfast Smoothie… Because the young coconuts are hard to find in my area, I used watered down canned coconut milk (1 part milk to 3 parts water,) and it’s almost too rich to drink. Did I do it all wrong, and will coconut WATER make the difference, or is it supposed to be this rich?
Suzanne, buy coconut LIQUID, not milk. It comes in cans as well. Or possibly dilute the coconut milk even further–I haven’t done that.
Robyn, I’ve started making my own yogurt, but it seems more liquid-y than store bought yogurt. Is this ok, or did I do something wrong?
Erin, that’s very normal. Store-bought yogurt often has artificial thickeners. Who needs ‘em?
Thanks Robyn, I forgot that the salt “mixture” was called sole.
Hi Robyn,
Can you tell me about the Lugol’s solution you use? I was told I needed more iodine and was taking kelp for about a year but have stopped when I ran out a few months ago. Plus, the 3 pills I took a day didn’t seem to change my thyroid numbers. Where do you buy it and where did you get tested for the bio identical hormones? Also, my kids love the green smoothies! My 12 year old loves to tease me by switching his (name labeled) lid with mine so that he can have the qt. and puts my name on the pt. I have been making him the qt size and when he comes home from school and sees it in the fridge he is overjoyed!
Holly, Francine Weiss at Utah Wellness Center is a nurse practitioner specializing in natural treatments and bioidenticals for hormone issues. The compounding-specialized pharmacy is Precision Medical, (801) 221-9355. Lugol’s is a 5% iodine solution, and you add 3 drops to your water once a day. You can test for iodine with painting a patch of your skin, and if the yellow is absorbed within a couple of hours, you need iodine. Ask Kevin at Precision Medical about it.
Robyn,
Are the Ormus greens and water an adequate replacement for our daily green smoothie if we are absolutely unable to take our blender on vacation? Thanks.
Rebecca, that’s what I do, when I fly: take Ormus Greens and just eat as much raw plant food as I can at restaurants, etc.
The diluted canned coconut milk in the Hot Pink Breakfast Smoothie is not working (way too rich) so looking through my pantry I decided to try it instead with water and a spoonful of coconut butter (not oil)… and it turned out much better! I don’t know if the same nutrition is there, and I know the fresh or canned coconut liquid would be best, but until I can find the fresh coconuts or canned liquid, I’ll use this method!
@Suzanne — you can often find coconut water (at least at my local stores) in the water aisle or sometimes the juice aisle. It often comes in paper boxes similar to juice boxes or bigger paper boxes like the rice milk and almond milk boxes. The brands I usually see are Vita Coco or O.N.E.
Robyn,
I have a question about the sole and the Ormus Greens. I purchased both but have a very hard time stomaching either of them on their own. Can I just add the Ormus Greens to my smoothie and put the sole on some avocado or something? Does it have to be added to water and drunk alone? I am pregnant and this makes me quite nauseated. Thanks in advance!
Casey, no. You already have plenty of fresh greens in your green smoothie. And sole is important to drink on an empty stomach when you first wake up. (Otherwise it’s just adding salt to your diet, rather than achieving that synergy with water.)
Just do it when your “morning sickness” calms down. I was determined to eat a green salad every night, my last two pregnancies, even though eating greens made me nauseous. I did so, but only by sheer will. If you can’t, then just come back to it when you’re feeling better.
