Chia Seeds
I have read so many good benefits of the Chia Seed. I have read the reviews (1 star to 5 stars). Can You tell me how Chia Seeds have worked for your body.
This one guys response said this, “Sorry, I haven’t been using them for a while. My digestive system didn’t seem to be processing them well. Good results at first but they didn’t seem to last so I can’t really recommend them and I can’t explain the change.”
I am looking forward to trying these seeds…just want feedback from GSG Blog Readers.
I was excited about all the good things that were said about them, so I tried chia seeds. I put them in my smoothie for two weeks straight and the whole time I had diarrhea. As soon as I stopped, I went back to normal. I gave them to my mom who used them for a while. She had multiple bowel movements a day, but not diarrhea and stopped because “it wasn’t worth it.”
I’m sure this doesn’t happen to everyone.
I try and get some Chia Seeds in every day. Some days I get more than others.
I have found them to be very beneficial to my health.
I add a tablespoon of soaked chias to each smoothie. The one thing I noticed was that when I ran out of them for a few days, I was much hungrier in between meals than I was with chia seeds. Now I don’t let them run out!
Have you tried grinding them to a powder in a nut grinder? That’s the only way I consume them, and I have no trouble whatsoever. Maybe you should start out slowly to let your system adjust to them. When I eat a tablespoon each morning in my oatmeal, I can go all day and have tons of energy, which I don’t have when I don’t eat them. They really do work. Try them again. It’s worth it.
I love them I have them at breakfast in oatmeal or in peanut butter on toast they keep me full till lunch I have not had any bad side effects whatsoever.
I haven’t had any problems with chia seeds either. It is important to make them into gel because they absorb water and if they haven’t already absorbed water before you eat them then they will absorb water inside of your tummy! That could be what caused the problems! Make it by combining 2 cups water and 1/3 cup chia seeds. Let sit for at least 10 mins, keep refrigerated.
I have had 2 tbsp of black and white chia seeds in my green smoothie everyday (make about 1800 ml). The nutritional info about these is really interesting and as a vegan I like that they have 6 times more calcium than milk and also 3 times more iron than spinach. I have felt great all year and haven’t had digestion problems…apart from the usual at the start from overdoing the smoothies!
Where exactly does one buy chia seeds? I’ve looked in all the grocery/health food stores in my area and found none.
@ Sarah, BM’s several times a day is sooo healthy for you! Tell your mom It’s very worth it. Think of everything you eat… You need to have that coming out! I’ve heard it said that a healthy person cleans out 3ft of their colon, so if your going several times a day then things aren’t getting “backed up”, flush out that system! (pun intended).
I make chias into a pudding, 1 part chia to 4 parts nut milk, I add chopped apple, raisins, cinnamon, Ginger, nutmeg, vanilla and a natural sweetner. Yummy!!!! I let it sit in the fridge overnight so the flavors mingle to perfection.
We are huge fans of Chia!!!! My son, age 5 has approximately 1 T. each morning in his shake or oatmeal and his bowels are so much better than when we tried flax seed. I also feel very full and content until lunchtime. We have been eating these super seeds for about 3 months now.
The only time my husband had a problem was when he took too many.. there is such a thing as too much of a good thing
Great discussion!
I too started consuming cha seeds. I have added them to beverages, yogurts, pretty much anything that has water content to make them plump up and form their gel.
This morning, after day 2 of starting chia seeds, I too have an irritable bowel, and I know for certain the culprit is the chia seeds. I enjoy then but the last thing I need is to be at work and have an unexpected movement of mucous and chia seeds in my underwear: not good!
This is not a joke. I read that Chia seeds are beneficial to your pets (well dogs at least). I have been feeding them to my two labs and while they ALWAYS love any type of food, I have been adding Chia seeds to their yogurt that I give them for a treat. This morning I noticed I now have a backyard with a few dumping of Chia Logs: yes, their poops are sprouting miniature 2012 versions of Chia Pets…I just hope they don’t try to eat them. Of course I can simple pick up their poops, but I found it odd the seeds would still sprout after going through their digestive system.
Ohhhhhhh good Lawd, I just had diarrhea for two hours straight!! I suspected the Chia… Thanks for the blog, glad I’m not the only one!!
