tamper for the BlendTec
So you can’t decide whether to get a BlendTec or VitaMix? The BlendTec with the 96 oz. BPA-free jar is the ultimate, IMO. You can read about my opinion on the site under “Robyn Recommends.”
But if you’re torn because you like that tamper that comes with the VitaMix (which, by the way, is more expensive), you can actually get a tamper for your BlendTec. Not from the company–they don’t endorse that. But here’s the link to get one for $5.95, free shipping:

Uh, what is a tamper?
Hi,
I couldn’t figure out from your website or blog how else to contact you so I figured I’d just leave a comment to ask my question. I used to be really healthy eating fresh-from-the-farm vegetables as the main part of our dinners, hadn’t had fast food in 4 years, etc. But then I got pregnant at the end of the summer and really sick and couldn’t eat anything – a lot making me sick and just having food aversions. One of those aversions is vegetables. So, now I’m nearly 6 months pregnant and I eat McD’s once a day because I can’t come up with any other ideas to make for food and I HATE IT! A friend recommend green smoothies to me and it sounds delicious I’m just worried about being able to gain enough weight, etc, while doing that. There are also very few recipes online. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks!

umm I think you void your warranty if you use this with your machine!
doesn’t using it in your blender void the warranty?
VitaMix, with its taller, narrower, round jar depends on the tamper, a tool you poke through the lid and shove ingredients down into the blade.
BlendTec has a wider, square jar that utilizes centrifugal force better. They do not provide the tamper tool, which some people like, and which is nice to have for really thick concoctions.
I think if you get the BlendTec (cheaper than VM too) and buy the $6 tamper, you’re getting the best of both worlds.
I bought the vitamix for the same price as the BlendTec.
I love it. But I have no experience with the BlendTec. It seems Robyn likes this one better. But she says she has both. There seems to be many models of the BlendTec. Some very expensive. Maybe one day we will try it as well.
Re Blendtec vs. Vita-mix: I was ready to go with the Blendtec because I really like your reasons, but then I noticed that the Blendtec plastic is not bpa-free, while the Vita-mix plastic is. Please comment. Thanks. I like your site –
They are both bpa free now, Leslie.
I need a tamper for my BlendTec and am so happy to see this article. The link you provided doesn’t work anymore. Could you please tell me where to buy the tamper. Thank you so much!
Also tried the link and got nowhere. Any updates?
I recently (August 2012) purchased a wooden tamper for my Blendtec from Thomas Fox at http://www.3blenders.com/PURCHASE.html. The price of $9.50 included shipping.
He shipped the same day I ordered.
