Ideal to eat three meals a day. If you’re a growing child/teen, or if you’re an athlete like me and play sports 2-3 hours a day, you’re not likely to make it without an afternoon snack.
I believe that the Atkins / high-protein fad brought with it the idea that we should always be eating lots of small meals. While that’s better in some ways that eating huge meals (your body can’t metabolize more than 600-800 cals. at a time–the rest goes to fat), it’s better for the rest you need, and use of the body’s master hormone leptin, to eat three reasonably sized meals daily.
