New to the Green Smoothie thing, but have a question…
I was recently introduced to Green Smoothies last week and have had a small one every day since discovering them! I have also given up my terrible habit of drinking a 16oz energy drink a day. What my question is though…is the green smoothies supposed to be a meal replacement or just an addition to your diet (for all of the nutrients, fiber, and such you get with them). I appologize for being naive, I’m just trying to grasp the green smoothie lifestyle. I am also new to the blog, so if anyone would like to email me, it’s jwilkins888@hotmail.com.
I am loving the green smoothies so far! Cant wait to continue this lifestyle
I have had it for a meal, or for an in-between the meal thing, or with a meal! It kind of depends on you…I think the longer you eat healthier, and lighter foods, the less food you feel like you have to eat to be not hungry anymore. So just make one and then if you are still hungry, have something else!
It’s not a meal replacement, it’s a meal! I usually have one for breakfast and some days for lunch too.
There’s no rule–drink them by themselves or with other food, whichever you prefer!
I agree with Hanlie, It is definitely a meal. I started GS about 2 months ago and I am loving them. I replaced my bacon, eggs and coffee with GS. I am not hungry for 4-5 hours. I am only about 80% there and loving it. I am looking and feeling better. This is definitely a life style for me. This is truly a God sent. God is so good to not only care about our salvation and our health so we can live long on the earth. I have taken GS with me on vacation. Thanks GSG for listening to the Father.
Do you have any “healthy” (no chemicals, sugar free etc. ) ideas for electrolyte replacement for children when playing sports. I am talking about tackle football practice 2 hours a day in 80 degree weather for the remainder of the summer. We do not drink soda, or flavored drinks of any kind but I am concerned about my young son when playing competitive sports. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also, we have been drinking green smoothie for the past 5 months and we are NEVER going back!!! We have seen wonderful health benefits. At some point I will send pictures of my boys with their green smoothie mustaches that they sport each morning after drinking their green smoothie. Also, also, my husband bought me the BLENDTEC through your website and it is used daily to prepare healthy foods for my family. I love it!!!
Cristine, I have heard that coconut water is full of electrolytes, and a great substitute for sports drinks.
Christine: You might try fresh coconut water [liquid]–alone or in a smoothy. It is nature’s gatorade!
Young thai coconut water is a great electrolyte replacer. You can drink it straight or mix it into a smoothie for your son so he doesn’t even know he is drinking it.
definitely coconut water… my so plays football too. i pick up coconut water in little ‘juice’ packs for convenience… he loves it!
just make sure it’s 100% coco water and no additives. i came across coco water that was cheaper than the one i usually buy and when i read the ingredients it was loaded with added sugar and other junk… totally no need for it…don’t know why they do that…uuuggghhh!
I was going to second this, but three others have told you the same thing: the electrolyte balance in coconut liquid is absolutely perfect for human beings, and it is found in refrigeration at health food stores. But you can just drain the liquid from a young Thai coconut, buying them by the case at Asian markets.
I make a blenderful in the morning (or sometimes the night before) which fills 2 of my insulated cups. I drink 1 with my breakfast and 1 with my lunch. Rarely is it a meal replacement for me, I always eat other foods with it.
I’ve had 2 cups worth of green smoothie for breakfat topped with about half a cup of granola. kept me going from 12 PM ’till about 6
