I don’t want green smoothies when it’s cold!

Dear GreenSmoothieGirl:   I LOVE green smoothies, but lately, since it’s getting cooler outside, I’m wanting something warm . . . got any ideas?

 

Answer:   Yes, what I do is have my green smoothie (never warm, yuck!) PLUS something warm or hot that I really enjoy, like warm sourdough bread or a bowl of soup.   Eat the hot thing last!   (That’s a better idea anyway, as enzymes are already in your stomach when cooked food arrives, signaling to bodily systems not to tax themselves providing manufactured enzymes which take resources away from metabolic functions.   At my house, we always eat the green smoothie or salad FIRST, then our other food.)

  1. Ha ha, glad I live in the south! Nice and 70s today! Anyway I was wondering so is the Green Smoothies Rx book not the 12 step program book? Because I thought it was…

  2. Another thing you can do to “warm” up the smoothie is to add warm spices — I will sometimes add cinnamon or if you are feeling adventurous, a pinch of cayenne. It will make the cold smoothie feel warm in your body.

I posted this question on the 12-step blog a while back, and thanks to the replies realized (duh) I didn’t have to use frozen fruit….I could defrost it first so the smoothie is at least room temp. Still not warm, but a whole lot better than drinking a frozen concoction when it’s 15 degrees out! :o)

  4. Hot (raw Chocolate) Cacal as an antidote for the Colorado Cold.

    It is cold here in Durango too. I start my morning out with a tbls of Raw Cacal, Hot Water, Coconut oil and Agave to taste. Seems to stimulate my interest in getting the blender going for GS as well.
