I HAD MY FIRST GREEN SMOOTHIE AND IT WAS GREAT!!!!
Robyn, thanks for the recipe for the green smoothie. I have heard of them for several years now but never had a recipe for one. I tried yours and loved it. I have always been a healthy eater (but not vegan) I am trying to loose weight and I feel that this will help me achieve my goals.
You’re very welcome!
Robyn,
Finding your website has helped me SO much. I don’t know about eating **2 lbs.** of greens a day…but, put it this way..at least now I’m eating breakfast, and speaking as a diabetic, that is VERY important. I rotate what greens I have day by day, this way I’m not having the same thing all the time. My BlendTec is so powerful…just got it yesterday…and the first time I used it, I thought it was going to blast off thru the ceiling! LOL
I have upped my smoothie intake from one a day to two and my pants are gettin’ loose on me! I encourage everyone to eat this way; what better way is there to get vitamins and minerals everyday! Cooking kills all that, not to mention the all-important enzymes we need for digestion.
I am so grateful for this site and for you Robyn; thanks for all you do.
Hmm I never thought of having 2 a day. I usually just whip one up a day for my husband and I and we have it either as a snack or with dinner.
Robyn, how many do you have each day typically?
I drink a quart a day–sometimes in one sitting, sometimes two.
I make quite a bit at one time and I really do enjoy it very much. I have been able to cut out some of the fruit now, as my taste buds have developed a real taste for the green stuff alone. I still put a banana and an apple or a pear with it though. I also like to put a tomatoe in it in place of another fruit, or just add it to the whole mix.I feel better and I have been told that I look like I am loosing weight. How wonderful! I am so glad that I have found your sight. Thanks again. Vivian
Hi Robyn,
Thanks for the greens info…I have been starting the Gree Smoothies…they are so filling….
Do you know when they might be getting the Coconut Oil in, I have tried a couple of times to order and it says they are OUT of the unrefined $30/gal type. Have you tried the other refined stuff?
Thanks, Connie
The source for coconut oil I list in my store and on my coconut oil pages orders in small amounts, so they go out of stock sometimes, but if you give them a week or two, they’ll get more stock in. I wish they’d figure out their supply situation. Worth the wait, though, because it’s a great product for a great price! I haven’t tried the refined, and I’d wait if I were you.
Robyn
Hi Robyn, I love your site and have ordered my blentec. I am excited to try the green smoothie and the hot pink smoothie as well. My issue is this– I have polycystic ovarian syndrome and have to really watch my sugar/carb intake ( similar to a diabetic but I am not diabetic). I have to kill myself in the gym to lose a pound! I am not sure I can tolerate all of the grains, “sugary” veggies ( carrots, beets, etc) and oils in some of the recipes you have. Do you think if I start drinking the smoothies it will balance out in the end?? I eat pretty good but not perfect ( i don’t eat any leafy greens) and I have 25 more pounds to lose— I am down 25 since october!!! I am hoping that cleaning up my diet further it will help to lose the last of the weight, it is getting much harder to lose!!! I started using the raw agave and it has made a difference cutting out the small amount of sugar I used. Thanks for a great site, cannot wait to read your book! Sabrina
Ouch! The price on that has gone up $7 per gallon in the last week! Today it’s $37/gallon. And that’s in addition to the increased cost of shipping
Robyn, how do I get the 12 steps to whole food, and how can I get the recipe for the green smoothie?
Robyn’s administrator here…
You can find the 12 Step Program at :
http://greensmoothiegirl.com/12-steps-to-whole-food-eating.html
You will find green smoothie recipes in ch. 1 and in the Jump Start Recipe collection that comes with the program.
Hello, Robyn. Can you please give me your green smoothie recipe? It seems to be working wonders for everyone nad I do not want to be left out.
Thanks and keep up the good work!
Olivia.
Made our very first Green Smoothie 2 nights ago. We made the one from Laura, no sugar, and my husband liked it! Yay! Trying different recipes now, very excited for what the future will bring. Thank you Robyn and Green Smoothie Girl team!
I love the smoothie recipes that I got from your site Robyn. They’ve been a great for helping change up the flavors.
I’ve been doing green drinks for about a month and although I’m feeling great, I have not lost any weight which is a bit frustrating. I am working hard at keeping my lunches raw, but they are not 100% there yet. Dinner is a normal meal with my husband – he likes the health changes he has seen in me but he is not changing his eating habits and I am not into preparing different meals for us. Is there something I’m not doing that will kick this over for me?
Hi Robyn,
I have a question that I would like to ask. I AM preparing myself to become a GSG. Inorder to prepare myself for this lifestyle change, I am trying to purchase a blender, and your site recommends Blendtec, I’m convinced it is an excellent blender based on your recommendation, but I recently saw a site, and infomercial about a blender called BlendMaster, I think, promoted by TV host, Montel. His blender has a 100yr guarantee on the motor only. Do you know of this blender, and if so, how does it compare to your recommendation? Would like to know because I am starting my lifestyle change for the new year and would like to prepare by purchasing equiptment, foods, etc. Thank you in advance for your time and input!!!
Hi Robyn,
I love your site, And i love the way you raise your kids.I would like to start a healthy life for me and my 4 childrens . Could you give me a sample of your family’s meal plan ? this will help me a lot .
Thanks
Hi Robyn, I would like the price and availability of the alkaline water unit. Also the green smoothie receipe I have been reading about
Hi Robyn,
Is there a special section on losing weight in your 12 step program?
Peggy, although it’s addressed briefly, the answer is this:
If you eat only whole foods, your metabolism heals and you can actually (according to Colin Campbell’s research in The China Study) eat more calories.
The vast majority of people do NOT have to count calories or worry about macronutrient ratios (fat/protein/carbs) eating whole foods, because addictions are not a factor and calories are naturally low/moderate and ratios are perfect in natural foods.
So while the program isn’t a “weight loss program” or “diet” per se, weight loss is a natural byproduct if you are overweight. If you’re underweight, a shift to a whole-foods lifestyle can help you increase weight, too. (Mineral deficiencies are often underlying an underweight problem, since almost no one in America is actually eating too little.)
I don’t like calorie suppression or “diets” in general. They backfire. If you start concerning yourself with the “DO’s” instead of the “DON’Ts” you are more successful at maintaining a healthy weight for life, in my experience.
Thanks Robyn,
So it’s not just the green smoothies that make you lose weight, although that helps, it’s eating whole foods all the time. Which, if I get your 12 step program, will help me to learn more about whole foods, right? Right now, I only have THE GREEN SMOOTHIE DIET and wanted to know more.
Thanks again,
Peggy
Peggy, the more whole foods you eat, the more high-calorie, refined foods are bumped out. Weight loss is a natural byproduct. Yes, 12 Steps to Whole Foods teaches you all about whole plant foods (greens, vegetables, fruits, legumes, whole grains, etc.) and how to eat them.
Robyn,
Hi I’ve been a big fan for a little over a month now, I bought your book and downloads. I’ve been 90% green / raw for about a month now, trying to get healthy and loose weight. I’m eating so healthy!!! But the problem is, I haven’t lost 1 darn pound!!!!! and I’m getting very frustrated!! I would love to have some baggy jeans to show for all my hard work. Any advise you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
I’m basically following a combination of the 3 day cleanse and 30 day diet. I make a big blender full (large Blentec) and drink that all day when I’m hungry, I eat a mostly vege dinner.
Thank you so much for all you do!!
I’ve converted about 6 people to the green smoothie ways!!!
I wonder if one of the keys to losing weight is to go more green and less fruit. I know that we put the fruit into make the smoothie more palatable at first and to get picky eaters on board. I used to make the smoothies with just low sugar fruits like grapefruit, lemon and lime and truly grew to love them. That was when I experienced the most weight loss. But I couldn’t get the rest of my family on board. So when I found the GS site I realized that a spoonful of sugar (or in other words all the fruit and stevia) might make the medicine go down a bit easier until they had aquired a taste for the other. But I have heard that the extra sugar content might be a factor in the slower weight loss. This could be due to the fact that so many of us suffer with yeast infections even when we don’t feel the symptoms in recognizable ways. The good news is that I do believe that over time the weightloss will come and on a cellular level your system is being renewed so when it is ready it will happen.
Another thing to look at is your oil consuption in the smoothie I used to put a whole avocado in everyday and my weightloss slowed but the trade off was the improvement in my skin texture. I feel the same way with how my body reacts to adding flax seed and ground flax, but the improvement in my skin is worth its weight in gold. I think the key is too realize that things are happening to our bodies on a cellular level and when your systems are rebuilt and strong enough then the dumping will occur. I am as impatient for weightloss to occur as anyone but we have to trust the intelligence of our systems to do what is right when it is right.
The last thing I can think of that is important is the water consuption, both the type and the quantity. Drink at least 1 litre of good quality water each day for every 30 pounds of body weight. A great book on this subject is Dr. Robert O. Young’s book “The pH Miracle for Weightloss” It is a great companion to all that you can learn from the GSG Program. The great thing about these different systems is that each one seems to complment and add too the others and add more pieces to the puzzle.
I was so excited to find the 12 steps progam by Robyn because she made it something I could do on a daily basis and helped me to figure out the nuts and bolts of doing it. I am so grateful and have loved listening to her tapes and dvd’s. She has truly given us all a gift of how to make improved health and nutrition a real part of our lives.
I don’t know if this will be helpful to anyone but good luck on your quest for health.
Debbie
Debbie,
Thank you. That was very helpful. I was wondering about the ratio of fruit to greens, and it seemed that there was a high percentage of fruit in all the recipes. I will try to reduce the fruit and increase the greens to the maximum that is palatable. I was also wondering about the oils (you hit every point). My all time favorite smoothie is the one that tastes just like a pina coloda, with spinach, pineapple and coconut water and coconut oil. I had heard so many great things about coconut oil!! But I guess if you think about it they are probably the most high calorie smoothie there is… i just figured, this is all I’m really eating, so how fattening could it be???
You were right on with your third point as well. I should really drink more water, I would need to drink 5.2 liters of water, whoo that’s a lot of water!!! I will try to make a conscious effort to drink more.
I do feel better and my Mom says she notices a huge difference in me, she says I look very healthy and less tired, so I guess something is working!! I will try another month modifying as you recommend and let you know how it goes.
One more question. Anyone have a good recipe for using Mustard greens?? They always look so good at the farm store, I buy them and always regret adding them to my smoothies… There has to be a good recipe that complements the taste of the mustard green as opposed to fighting it.
Thanks so much
Chris, there are recipes using mustard greens in my book, The Green Smoothies Diet.
Robyn
Robyn,
First I want to extend a heartfelt thank you for what you do. I know it sounds a bit dramatic but you may have helped to save my life. And for that I will be eternally grateful.
I cannot for the life of me remember how I ran across your website. But the important thing is that I did. I would like to share a little bit about the impact you have had on my life up to this point.
I first found greensmoothiegirl.com somewhere around the end of February of this year.
Before that point I was somewhere around 370 or 380 pounds. I am not exactly sure but the only way I could estimate is that my doctors scale (350lb max weight) wouldn’t weigh me and I had to press pretty hard on the end of the balance point to get that thing in the middle. We guessed about 370 or 380. Not good. Obviously! I was officially “fat, forty five and ‘fraid a dyin”
I have been in the medical field for more than half my life. I have seen people die senselessly for 25 years. All products of a bad nutritional choices. And here I was heading in the same direction.
Back in 1985 when I started in this field it would be uncommon for people in their 50′s to die of sudden cardiac death. As time has gone by that age has continually dropped. Now it is COMMON for us to see patients in their 40′s go into cardiac arrest and the 30 year olds are the new 50. Uncommon, but they are now dropping dead in their 30′s. Scary.
Two months ago my friend had a 14 year old patient who was having a full blown STEMI (ST segment elevation myocardial infarction) A STEMI is a type of severe heart attack in which the coronary artery is completely blocked off by a blood clot. It’s usually recognized by an elevation of the ST segment on an ECG, which indicates that a large amount of heart muscle damage is occurring.
So back to me……..
I started reading all your stuff and decided to try the green smoothies or what I affectionately call – my swamp water. I was very pleased. And have only missed about 3 days of smoothies since I began the first of March this year.
Reading you content led me to “The China Study” which led me to “Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease” which led me to Dr. McDougall.
My life has been altered and changed for the better since. I no longer eat oils of any kind, meat, poultry or dairy and have not had a single “cheat day” since. You couldn’t pay me enough to go back to the dark side of nutrition.
My numbers are very impressive to date. I am down almost 70 pounds in 5 months, my total cholesterol is 119, triglycerides 59, LDL’s 64, and HDL’s 25.
I no longer take either of my high blood pressure meds. I was on those for nearly 20 years and it took all of 1 month to throw them away. Absolutely amazing.
It all started with green smoothies. Thank you, thank you, thank you for what you do. It must feel amazing to effect lives in such a profound way.
Respectfully,
Scott Venezia
Scott, love you, love this, thank you for sharing! And expect to see this front and center on my blog shortly!! XO,
Robyn
Robyn,
I didn’t know where to post this question so here it is. . .
On Sunday, I was talking with a co-workers GF about my green smoothie she saw me drinking (I tell everyone I can). She is taking some kind of class and said that she learned that nutrients won’t be absorbed or absorbed as well when fruits and vegetables are combined, unless there is an acid fruit present.
Robyn, please set it straight. I trust you and your knowledge base.
Respectfully,
Scott Venezia
Scott, if you can ever find ANY shred of scientific evidence backing up the food-combining theorists, please let me know. I address this in more detail in The Green Smoothies Diet.
People with blood type AB have lower stomach acid, which leads to problems with meals that mix foods requiring both alkaline and acid foods.
People whose health has degenerated from poor nutrition can have the same problem.
Green Smoothies, of course, can improve stomach acid balance dramatically.
It has been hard to manage produce at my house lately, between travel and schedule changes that vary wildly among family members. I can’t predict over the next few days as to who will be home for lunch or dinner.
I don’t know why it took me so long to figure out how to handle it.
So now I get produce more often, make the yummiest salad possible for whoever shows up, and then blend AND juice the remainders for breakfast the following day when it looks like I won’t have enough people home to eat the salads. (Yes, blending is better and smoothies are fabulous, but sometimes the amount of greens left over is huge. It’s a good thing that I ALSO really like Natalia Rose’s Green Lemonade and the way it mainlines perfect water, chlorophyll and minerals right into my system. My new motto is “No Green Left Behind!”)
Robyn,
Thank you. I knew you would have an answer.
I trust you implicitly. You’re smart and you know what you know and you lay it out there without bias. And you make it easy to understand. You’re my go to girl.
I have a medical/science background (obviously not in nutrition LOL) and have been studying nutrition and plant based eating for six months since you converted me. But there is just so much to know and so much misinformation out there. ( I figured out 5 months ago that Mercola was bias and money motivated. I haven’t read any of his stuff since then. Thanks for defending Dr. Campbell. . . You get ‘em girl )
I hope you don’t mind me tapping your knowledge base occasionally.
Thanks again for all you do.

Scott Venezia
Robyn,
I just wanted to say thank you for your presentation the other night in Las Vegas. You are truly inspirational to listen to, as evidenced by the captivated audience, me included. You are a natural in front of people. Probably because there is no pretension. . . just you.
I appreciate you sharing your story. It makes you real and accessible. I think that is important for people to identify with you as normal and real. It makes them more likely to believe they can do what you do.
MY UPDATE. . . . so far 85 lbs of unhealthy, ugly fat has disappeared NEVER to return. I have remained faithful to the eating lifestyle and GS’s for almost 8 months now and NO desire to ever go back.
Lastly, thank you for remembering my name at your class and book signing. That was powerful and impactful for me.
Respectfully,
Scott “Papa Scoot” Venezia
Scott, how could I forget your amazing story. Meeting you Thursday night was a great privilege. Thank you for coming to my class. Thank you for putting words to your story so folks reading this blog can be inspired by yo u.
Robyn
do you have the recipe for Natalia Roses Green Lemonade? I love green smoothies and so does my family.
